Or it could be creating necessary chaos that may have long term positive repercussions.

Possibly but it doesn't seem likely at this juncture

Why did you choose to read that in such a way as to think Bessent thought it was unstainable for the US?

Wasn't he commenting that it is unsustainable for China?

No. He was talking to a group at JPM and reassured them de-escalation would happen soon and the situation is unsustainable. Scott Bessent can only control what the US side does. Why do you think the markets rallied on that news? Scott Bessent can't force China to de-escalate or come to the table which he admitted China has not called or made any effort to negotiate. Scott Bessent does not speak for China he speaks from the US perspective

I thought they locked you up in the OT Ukraine Bros thread telling your fictional stories about people you talk to and secret technology you worked on for Ukraine

This suggests that we didn't have a good deal previously

We didn’t. China was using predatory practices to subvert any and every deal any country made with them. This should end that if we remain resolute.

It had become common wisdom that we had to decouple from China, at least to the extent that we regain control of semiconductors and other critical industry, as well as enough heavy industry to maintain our capability. However, the decoupling was not happening fast enough. Trump just hit the warp speed button. I’m in favor.

Will any objectives be accomplished?

Why are you asking? You’ve been adamant that it is stupid, so I insist that you stay in that corner. From there you can laugh at us when Trump/America fail, or we will laugh at you if it works out well.
