Most politician I see get rich and I don't have a ton of respect. I don't consider it service to country unless there are no perks or salary

Politicians only if you are enlisted person or cop etc there is career and service component to me

Joe Kennedy trained his sons to always say "public service" instead of "politics".

I once heard an interview w/JFK from 1940 where he says he's considering going into "public service"

Being a politician is a service whether you FEEL like it is or not. Your feelings can be wrong, fyi.

Enlisting is a service, as an example. By your criteria enlisting is not a service.

No I don't, at the national level. They all come out far richer than they went in. It's a career and it shouldn't be a career.

Small town mayors, council members etc are doing public service.

It used to be, about 170+ years ago. The early Congresscritters would rather be home tending to their farms and businesses then be in the hot and humid swamp (literally) of Washington. It was around the 1820’s or 30’s when the second generation politicians came in to make it a career and family dynasties were established. Some of the earliest being the Adams’, Harrison’s, and Taft’s.

Accounting is a service - we don't brag on someone's accounting service when they die

No, it's not a public service to take a job that pays $150K a a year, but somehow end up being a millionaire after 6 years of "service"

I love the story of Pres Jefferson stopping at a roadside inn for the night and asking for some supper -- but they refused to open the kitchen back up for him. They regarded him as a public servant -- no more, no less.

Putting your name and family through what it takes to represent your city/district/state/nation is definitely public service.

Actually. No they can’t FYI.

That’s why it’s illogical to rely on emotional arguments.

If public service is the path to becoming a multimillionaire practically overnight, allow me to be your servant!
