I have to disagree on that. In northern Iowa you see a lot of fallow fields. And I don't even know the acronyms for it anymore.

There is around 20 million acres of CRP in the country
A good bit in Iowa but most of it is more to the west on the fringe areas of the grain belt. Most of the land that is in CRP shouldn't be growing crops anyway

There is 90mil acres of corn, 85mil acres of soybeans, and 55mil acres of wheat in the U.S. so CRP is really nothing in the big scheme of things

The disconnect between people and their food is truly scary.

There is a reckoning coming on that, too. You think the sheople will have trouble if their smartphones go down for a second? Imagine that day the food doesn't arrive at Whole Foods or Publix.

And it stays that way for a week or so.

Same in SoLa...most of the sugarcane is farmed by large corps (Patout Bros) that own and lease. Most of the labor is seasonal imports from the DR.

Here too. Husband leases land as well as farms "family land". Percentages of "profits" have changed from when he started due to increased costs/risks/etc. You can make a living but I guarantee you he works his arse off as do his two employees.
