I cannot wrap my head around the idea that Iran would be dumb enough to do this. There is just no way you actively choose the annihilation of your homeland by attacking a country that dwarfs you in every single way.

With that being said, the above quote is incredibly stupid. You don't wait until they start killing our guys just to justify hitting targets.

I completely understand that but I just don’t think we should be the ones to make the first move. I don’t want another pointless war in the Middle East.

What do you expect them to say?

I’d it’s an air war, we’ll bomb them into the Stone Age, but we will take losses, both in the air, and at sea. They have some modern and capable missile systems.

If it became a ground war, we’d win the war, but lose the occupation.

Especially if we honor Bolton's plan to install the MEK, who aren't supported by the general populace at all.

An occupation, given the terrain of the country, has quagmire written all over it.

And I understand not wanting to spark another war. I also don't like rolling the dice with peoples' lives.

I'm not advocating launching an all out assault on Iran, just hitting the assets we know they have in position.

Sure. But were not talking about an existential threat - like during the Cold War - where a first strike was seen as a potential defensive measure.

I think it’s likely one of Iran’s proxies fires some rockets. Then we have to decide if we strike them, Iran, or both.

This isn't happening in a vacuum, Iran attacks us, we retaliate, what shoe drops next. Does this lead to a world war? If Iran is ready for this, they are being backed by either China or Russia

Why would we have to occupy. If the start it, we destroy them and leave it in ruins for them to rebuild on their own.

We need every single soldier out of Iraq and XOM can provide its own security force.

Assuming the threats really are backed by Iran, then striking those targets in Iraq is exactly a defensive measure. Either Iran fesses up to backing them by getting pissy or they stay silent and we say we took out a rogue group and will continue to do so to keep our people safe.

Great, the Saudis are getting us into another war!

For the record, the damage to these (4?) ships is much less than any US ship that has been bombed in the middle east. And, there has been no (zero) confirmed deaths from this "attack".

like this alone cannot be a reason to go to war with Iran...which is why the President has already brought up their banning of the creation of nuclear weapons.

#BREAKING: Iraqi Former Vice President Iyad Allawi: US official informed me that the Israeli intelligence has satellite images of Iranian ballistic missile platforms in Basra city directed towards the Gulf, this is why Mike Pompeo suddenly visited Iraq last week- @Mustafa_Habib33

Show me. This sounds a lot like the BS before the 2nd Iraq War. We had grainy pictures of tubes and claimed they were burying chem labs in the desert.

I can see my cars in my driveway in Google earth, pretty sure a spy satellite could give me a very detailed picture of these missile platforms. And since Basra is in Iraq someone should be able to drive over there and snap a few pictures.

I can. The Iranian people have been rioting in the streets against the Ayatollah for about a year now. There has been little coverage about it on the news. The people are pissed. The Ayatollah has been destroying their economy for some time now and its taking its toll on the people.

Ever since Trump started putting sanctions on Iran, it has gotten worse. For the Ayatollah to set up ballistic platforms is a perfect way to deflect the Iranian people from rioting against their govt.
