Actually, I think it has a lot to do with what we're talking about.
When you're dealing with angry, prejudiced folks in rural America, it doesn't matter where you were born.
You're still going to get 'We've been doing it this way long before you came to this country." or "Maybe you need to go back to where you come from." and other fine offerings.

Angry prejudiced folks in rural America say that to everyone including white boy city slickers. Additionally, angry prejudiced folks in rural America are not common at all, unless you're a hammer & everything you see is a nail.
What you're doing is the same thing as "welfare queens" - villianize a group to a cartoonish degree that everyone agrees sucks. The problem is that reality rarely reaches that cartoonist level.
And again I'll say an American born
