Dude has it partially right, but he's not quite there.
I don't think HRC was involved in "setting Trump up." I think HRC heard "rumors" about Russia and her campaign decided to investigate it for themselves, mostly just to bring some of the info public to hurt Trump. This is when they got fed all kinds of BS info by Chris Steele (who got his info from Russian officials).
This whole thing was a disinformation campaign by the Russians and the Dems bought into it (because of their own confirmation bias).

I'm sure Manafort's thought at the time Hillary would win and when she won Manafort would simply carry on with his lucrative lobbying job as usual.
It was a good plan. If Hillary could implicate Trump with Russian collusion that would have been a devastating October surprise.
But Hillary lost. That changed everyone's calculus. Especially John Podesta and Robby Mook. By their own admonition they planned the MUH Russians narrative to resist and possibly impeach Trump the night Hillary lost. I guess they though they had a mountain of evidence and the media on their side to pull it off.
