My ISP does charge for bandwidth. They charge for every 100gigs or so I use. Why should they also be allowed to charge me for allowing me to use that bandwidth on certain sites?

They shouldn't. 100gb should be the same on Gmail as it is Netflix.

1. You said if NN was repealed that Google would pay for the fastlane and then keep censoring.

2. FOr ALphabet that means that NN would be a cheap way to eliminate ALL competition.

3. It would be stupid for them NOT to want NN repealed and capture 100% of the market space.

4. Seriously, how stupid are you? Y our argument would mean they would IMMEDIATE:Y be against NN. They are in FAVOR of NN. Their corporate mission is to maximize VALUE FOR THEIR SHAREHOLDERS. That would mean supporting repeal of NN. They have the EXACT OPPOSITE STANCE.

Correct.

No. It would not be cheap.

Or they could capture that market in other ways and NOT have to pay Comcast billions.

In what world do you think Google wants to pay Comcast billions when they can capture that tiny market share that they don't already control in cheaper ways?

Cable internet. I have a package that provides me with 100 down and 10 up along with a data cap of 100 gigs. Anything above 100 gigs cost me more money
That does suck. You do realize that's a tremendous amount of data though, correct?

My last cell bill - 2 HD movies at lake house, constant web browsing, and Windows updates on two laptop computers put me over by 2gb on my Cellular hotspot plan. It was 20 bucks. I just don't see the big deal.

I just checked the bill - it was 26 bucks - but still.

If ISP's can limit what you can access, the search engine's ability to limit what shows up in your search results won't matter. The ISP can simply launch its own search engine that only shows you results of pages that paid the ISP to be usable. The ISP's will then have the ability to kill the search engines in the long term by shrinking the internet to such an extent that the search engines really aren't even necessary any more and are either driven to the technological dust bin or bought out and merged into the ISP.

I guess I am confusing myself! :) I think your bandwidth is yours. 100 gb spent watching movies or shitposting here, it should not matter!
You paid for the 100gb. I do think you should use as you want.

I have yet to come across a single person who doesn't work for an ISP who supports repealing NN once they understand what that actually means for them.

Holy hell dude. Why are you on a tiered plan? Out in the country? Cellular?

I can feel for you in that instance. 1TB though??? Jesus! Are you guys computing for SETI or something?

There are actual legit arguments that I understand.

I just think that by the time technology catches up to where we don't need it, we can repeal it then.

I still don't see how NN inhibits innovation though. That argument I don't get.

So much this. The "muh free market" types seem to labor under the delusion that NN is some kind of barrier to entry for firms wanting to get into the ISP business, and that without it, there will suddenly be all kinds of competition. Considering that NN has literally zero impact on restraining new ISP's from popping up, those posters have zero legs to stand on.

Sometimes, there are less trustworthy firms than the government. It's not very often that the government does something right, but every now and again, some level of federal government regulation of the market is not only desired, but vital.

I feel for you then Greace. That's truly a LOT of streaming though. I hope you get a better alternative soon. It seems you have one choice, and they screw you for bandwidth. My argument falls short in your case.
