The schools have gotten out of hand.
We live in a great school district north of Houston but a ton of "fancy" fricking Mexicans and Columbians thinking they are hot shite driving their G-Wagons, Lambo SUV's, and rolls Royce's around think they fricking run the area. They are flashy AF, loud AF when at the store or restaurants always talking on facetime and their kids are little fricking shits in school.
My kids are almost out of the school system and getting the frick out of what I call northern Monterrey Mexico.

Don’t worry. Soon Spanish is to be replaced by Arabic.

I’m realizing more and more that the reality we (millennials and before) grew up with is gone and not coming back.
I remember when this reaction first started, with people complaining about official documents or signs or whatever being in two languages. I never consciously told myself “we will win in the end, obviously, because this is our country”, but that’s what I generally thought.
How naive of me.

quote:In most of Asia they’re just happy if you don’t do that that weird American thing of suddenly adopting a “me Chinese” accent when speaking English to them.
If I were in Vietnam for instance i'd be expected to speak the language and respect the customs.
As an American abroad, the bar is really low. People are genuinely impressed if you can ask where the bathroom is or if they speak English in their language. Luckily, it's pretty easy to find people who speak even multiple languages overseas.

To be fair, that’s hard not to do. Ha!
I guess the language controversy depends on the country. I know in Thailand, the only farang I met that actually spoken conversational Thai worked at the embassy and studied intensively for 8 hours a day (paid for by US gov’t).
If you tried to speak Thai to locals, they would laugh and insist on speaking English.

It bothers people because it’s the equivalent of Muslims lining the streets to pray. They are to assimilate, not invade.

understand many of them here are not mentally capable of learning English but still.
Or racist and think their culture is superior.

Tell them to learn English. If they buck:
• Toll-free number (U.S. and Canada): 1-866-DHS-2-ICE (1-866-347-2423)
• TTY for hearing impaired: (802) 872-6196
• International calls: 802-872-6199

I don't like what this shows, as we shouldn't have such an influx of foreigners in this nation. Only anti-Americans see no issue with it.
One thing is 2 people having a conversation in person. But for the love of God can we deport anyone walking around in speaker phone and/or FaceTime?? IDC if they were born here. Get that crap out of society.

I don't know why this bothers people so much. If I moved to Mexico, I would learn their language well enough to communicate with locals about what I need or want, but when I'm speaking with my family members we would probably speak to each other in our native language.
Immigrants use to respect this nation by understanding that when you were in the home you spoke your language, lived your culture, but in public you spoke English and lived the American culture.

Now, people that move here and have been here for several years and don't bother to learn even a little of our language, those people do annoy me.
Proves that immigrants today don't respect our nation/culture like the prior ones I described above.

I live in TX and unless you're in a taqueria you're not likely to run into many Spanish only speakers At that point how much can you really complain?
