I’m a doctor and my Black parents saw me break free of segregation. Now medical schools are bringing it back

My mother and father went to segregated schools, separated from Whites because they were Black. They told me, as a child, that they wanted better for me. They got their wish when I went to Stanford University and then the University of California at San Francisco’s medical school, both fully integrated and welcoming. Before they passed away, they firmly believed that the era of separating people by race was over forever.

My parents were wrong.

Higher education is deliberately re-segregating, driven by race-obsessed activists who, bizarrely, claim to oppose "systemic racism." Universities like Harvard and Chicago have held Black-only graduation ceremonies in recent years.

And in recent weeks, America’s most prestigious medical journal published a now infamous article calling for separating the races into different groups – based on a pilot program at my own alma mater. This is easily the greatest regression in civil rights in my lifetime, bringing back the very evil my parents endured and dreaded.

djmed, you said it best...."bringing back the very evil".
It is evil what is happening across multiple fronts to keep racism alive, spread division amongst many different groups, ideologies, race, orientations, etc.
It is to divide us all pure and simple.

Kinda like protecting the children by mutilating their bodies and making them insane.

Kinda.

Since traditional approaches to medical education are themselves founded in inequitable systems, new approaches are essential.

Racial affinity group caucuses (RAGCs) are one such approach.1 RAGCs are facilitated sessions involving participants grouped according to self-identified racial or ethnic identity to support integration of antiracism curricula into clinical practice.

Self-identified racial or ethnic identity?

So one could just identify as black...?

This policy should be used in high schools, it would greatly improve safety.

I grew up in an integrated public school system. We were all in it together. Playing, fighting, competing. The divisions came later, from the outside. I ask my 6 year old who attends the same school “is he black or white” and she says “he’s kinda tan.” Every generation is a chance to create a world where men are judged by the content of their character.

The best part is years from now most people will assume that you became a doctor because of some affirmative action quota.

As far as I'm concerned, you are a doctor and I salute you.

That's weird. I thought it was just the Red states that were racist.

You just don’t understand how oppressed you are. You need to listen to the liberal, white women who are going to come in & fix everything.

Exactly! And as a woman who entered the workforce in 1982, I'm watching the same thing happen with women's right by current culture letting anyone who decides to identify as a women take women's spots in athletics, in theater, in advertising, in the media. I was a teen when girls were guaranteed the same rights to play athletics as boys and I'm watching that disappear.

Congratulations on your success, but if schools are going to dismiss standards for admissions or give advantages to favored races for admissions, resegregation actually makes a lot of sense.
