It is $500, not $1000
that was the pilot program, the mayor wants $1000

It is not permanent, it is only funded through next year
Right, all temporary government programs go away, right? Kinda like the 2 temporary income taxes that eventually became permanent, 16th amendment

Cook county does not have a budget shortfall for 2026. They reduced spending and forecast a balanced budget
LOL

You cannot get it just by setting up a PO Box
Right, there is no fraud in Cook County Illinois

You are confused. Cook County does not have a mayor, it is a County not a town. There over 130 mayors in Cook County. The budget that was passed is for $500

LOL
The claim of a "$1.15B shortfall looming in 2026" is false. Cook County passed a balanced budget for 2026. The guaranteed income program represents .074% of the budget.

I didn't say there wasn't......Explain how you can get the $500 by just setting up a P.O. box. Should be easy for you.

Cook County has not stayed in budget for the past 10 years. The county has faced challenges in maintaining a balanced budget, including the need to address structural deficits, secure pension stability, and bond rating upgrades LOL

Per household or per mailbox?

Basically they know the pilot program was successful because survey findings "released by the commission in April showed that three-quarters of participants reported feeling more financially secure and 94% of participants used the funds to address financial emergencies during challenging times. Majorities also reported the program improved their mental health and lowered their stress levels. The commission also learned that participants mainly used the funds for essential needs such as food, rent, utilities, and transportation."
Who would've believed an extra $1k/month would lower stress and of course it was spent on necessities like food, rent, utilities, and transportation.

Cook county had a surplus a couple years ago.
It appears the Xitter poster's claim of a "$1.15B shortfall looming in 2026" is conflating Chicago's potential budget deficit with Cook counties UBI program. If Cook county does have a deficit in 2026 it will not be due to something that is .07% of their budget.

The national bailout of Chicago and NYC when the next democrat wins the presidency will be so comforting.
Got to pay the pension funds as well. 150k for city admistrators that worked a useless job fkr 20 years and will get the pension for 40.
Yep, politicians will literally run on protecting the government pensions and bailing out certain democrat run cities. That is who they have become. It was foretold long ago.
