If the Borderland states left what would happen to the rest of the US

Since California and Texas joined on their own accord without US intervention prior to the Mexican War they have the right to leave
The states that process land given byTexas should have that same right
So that leaves Nevada and Arizona. They would have no other choice but to suceed as well with Arizona being more of a problem
The question is would the rest of the United States crumble without Texas and California and would they come back to reform the US
But a totally different US without New England Puritan control
Truth is if the Puritans landed in San Diego Bay or Corpus Christi Bay instead of Plymouth Rock
The Northeast would look more like the Dakotas

The Spaniards would have arrested and probably executed them.

Well if Mexico continues to strengthen their economy through NAFTA and the Drug Trade
You will see those states use both countries against each other to create their own

If they leave do they assume to take US military technology with them?
Does California plan to keep the pacific fleet of carriers and subs?
If they do it's war, if they don't fine by me. The US government is not leaving these secrets and capabilities with a another "country," especially when we can't garuantee how they will interact with enemies and allies
Do they open the boarders to mass immigration and now California is majority Asian/Muslim and ally with china or Iran? Now we essentially have given our enemies everything we have

Time for the Anglo-Saxons to put down the Armada for a third and final time. Spanish people all have a major inferiority complex toward Anglos (see: anti-Gringo sentiment).
Anyone could see the Latino issue becoming a huge problem decades ago. I will never forget driving through Amarillo one time in 2001 and watching them fly the Mexican flag with the US flag upside down and a bunch of Mestizos stomping on a burnt US flag.

War is a thing of the past
Only leverage the US has is closing off the Gulf
Which makes the port of Houston worthless

It absolutely is not not if they attempt to influence US admirals/generals stationed on the west coast
It is extremely naive to assume the US government would allow their technology/assets to be under control of a "nation" they can't control. If we do we deserve what we get
The country we would be sanctioning would have a carrier fleet, nuclear subs, stealth aircraft, and nuclear silos. Not too mention would sanction us back. They could also sell this technology to china to negate sanctions and immediately erase our advantage in influence in any theatre militarily and economically.
Any power this dumb would cease to be a power

Problem is everything the US really is in 2016 is possessed by states who actually live and understand Mexican culture and for the most part have accepted as their own

They will be leaving on friendly terms for the most part
Mexico is not the improvised country many believe
If the choice comes down to given these states independence or seeing them apart of Mexico
The US would grant them maybe at first self government

No state has the right to leave the Union.

For how long?
You cannot control what they will become demographic wise through immigration, the possibility that in 10-20 years they could elect leadership friendly to our enemies is not a risk you can take *with them having all of our military capabilities*
You will end up in a bidding war with china for influence and we will go bankrupt.
If they want to relinquish US military assets and technology then they are free to do what they want with their population and land
Letting them keep all of the above and be free from our control would be what future generations of the world view in their history studies as one of the worst stretigic moves in world history, and what led to the end of the United States of America as the world power

Mexicans are despised in the states they are trying to take over. Mexico is third world and has historically sought to align with America's enemies in the past. The Chinese see the West Coast as art of their Pacific Rim region of influence, and Mexico would be their janissaries.

A lot of the technology you are speaking of is created in California and Texas
Silicon Valley and Austin dominates in the areas of nanotechnology

The city of Monterrey is actually nicer than all
of the rust belt. I believe it is the 7th richest city
Detroit and Buffalo are more third world than some Mexican cities

Yes, with funding from all 50 states, and employees from all 50 states. Much of the technology is produced in many other states as well. You are missing the most important part though: It is all owned by the government that these other states would be separating from
All of this would now be available to a different government and you can't guarantee what they will do or who they will give it to. You expect the US government to take that chance?
No treaty or agreement in regards to what they are allowed to do with it means shite when you can't enforce it
