re: If boomers seem mentally tough, it's because these 10 childhood realities shaped them

We definitely didn't get participation trophies.
This is the funny thing. Boomers sitting at companies waiting to retire are basically being given participation trophies.
They got lapped years ago by younger workers but age discrimination is frowned upon so they just sit there.

The weakest people I know mentally are boomers.
quote:Of course it means something. It inevitably means perseverance, and perhaps loyalty to a company which was not proportionately loyal to them.
boomers that think because they sit at a company for 40 years that means something.
In the latter regard, subsequent generations are much more likely to electively switch jobs midstream for greener grass, which is not a bad thing IMO.

2008 destroyed the long term health of the economy. It signaled that certain industries and corporations were too big to fail and would always be bailed out by the government. It led to the idea that government has a duty to always make stock market go up and always protect asset prices...with printed money.
This printed money of course, being a defacto tax on the subsequent generations

I see that the revisionist history has already begun. It was the States that had the authority to enforce lockdowns...and boy ol boy did those GOP governors lock us down just like Dem ones did

Older people at work accomplishing tasks much slower than coworkers. Some of them falling asleep.
Younger employees should never have to train someone with 20+ years “experience” on anything.
Thankfully I’ve gotten a few fired so work has improved a bit.

Youre purposely avoiding one of the darkest years in the past 20 years.

AWFL's were the absolute WORST at lecturing others about masks and vaccines. Worked with an AWFL (5 ft nothing 250 pounds of morbid obesity) who lectured me that it was my duty to protect others by getting the vaccine. My response was "If vaccines work and you're vaccinated, why do you care what I do? You're protected." She continued with her lecture. When I told her she should worry about dying of heart disease or diabetes, she stormed off.

So this thread is basically confirming that boomers fricked up parenting their own kids, blame their kids for it, and now look back at their own childhoods with rose-tinted glasses and think "yep, everything was better back then" while not not giving any credit to the Greatest/Silent generation parents who raised them "the right way."
The boomer mindset in a nutshell right there.

I never understood the come back "OK Boomer" like boomers are the dummies in the room.

But the response to it did. Obama did horrendous damage to the economy, race relations, healthcare, and the country. Millennials voted 2-to-1 for that atrocity. Boomers split 50-50. Shame on both, but your projection signals you're "unburdened by the past."

I already mentioned Covid old man. Yes we PAID people to stay home because YOU BOOMERS were terrified of dying and decided everyone had to put their lives on hold.
Do you think you can shut my business down forcefully(you did) and not provide a small
pittance for earnings I missed out? Im supposed to go bankrupt because youre scared of a cold?
Real "tough" boomers sent out their goon squads to forcefully shut down businesses

Young people voted for the left??? Yeah that really bucked trends
Funny enough, Gen Z and Gen Alpha seem to be trending far more right than Boomers ever were.
