Define dying? I assume you mean degradation. There's no way he's cycled the BESS enough to see any significant capacity loss. Powerwalls cycle 1-2 times a day and last 10+ years.

Im not sure how "range works in a hybrid - perhaps it loses potency but is continually recharging while driving
I did not see any limiting language like in battery or tire purchases but I'll look again it assume it also would have to be "defective " for replacement

You don't want them to get below 70%. Thats when risk of total failure starts to really increase. I typically use 75% replacement for all my modeling for home ESS.

33% would be far beyond normal degradation and considered a unit failure. It would have multiple dead cells.

Doubtful, this will be a big market along with salvage value of degraded BESS units that can be repurposed into grid interconnected storage.
