I was in Paris last year (March) three things surprised me

1. All this talk of Muslims left and right. Sorry, didn't jump out at all for me. And I went both to the popular touristy areas, but also to Eurodisney, also to some of the out of the way neighborhoods and nope, there was no huge Muslim presence. And I traveled a lot and I was there for 10 days, 4 days for a conference and took a week off so the kids could do Disney a few times and all of us could do the Hop on Hop off bus tours.
2. I knew the city was popular with tourists but it impossible to describe how flooded it is with everyone from Brits, to Russians to Japanese to Americans. Holy Moly, and this was in rainy and cold March!
3. I cannot speak for the countryside but in Paris I had absolutely no problem getting around with the English language. Heck many places like McDonalds have signs in French and English. Of course I expected decent English in my hotel, but I also had no problem in smaller restaurants, etc. Just don't be an arrogant a-hold pounding his fists and loudly demanding a cheeseburger in a place known for its seafood and you will be fine.
I had a wonderful time in Paris and would like to return.
The talk on this board about how it will be a Middle Eastern country in a decade is utterly laughable.
Most of the muslims they have there are loyal because they come from France's colonies like Algeria. They are notJihadists.
Viva Le France!

Most of this board has never been further south than Louisiana, further west than Texas, further east than Alabama, and further north than Arkansas. But yet, they're all experts on foreign policy.

It is great seeing them arguing with people who live in these places or have traveled extensively.

I thought London for sure had a lot more than Paris. But OTOH, London had a ton of half white, half Indian broads who were straight fire.

I am disappointed the Euro will survive.
The French had a chance to destroy a potential long term issue, for the US, before it became one.

Sadly tons of people here mistakenly think the Indians are Arabs

Someone's projecting. I'd traveled to 3 continents and 30 states before turning 18.

Getting your arse pounded in the berthing area of a ship in the Mediterranean doesn't qualify either.

A lot of people want to see France, before they can't anymore...at least that's what everyone is saying...

The Euro is a good thing.
On a personal level it saves people from walking around with 20 different currencies when they make a trip to Europe.
But it also helps make investing in Europe easier by having one set of goal posts.
The Euro is a great stabilizer and counter to the Russian Ruble, the USA should be all for it.

Not at all. All of our vacations growing up were to where my dad had work conferences. The hotel room was paid for so while he was working, we'd have a summer vacation. Sometimes, it was somewhere really cool like San Diego, Destin, Portland, or Orlando. Sometimes, it was Salt Lake City, Pittsburgh, or St. Louis. If it was really nice (like San Francisco or Hawaii), he just took my mom and we stayed with grandma for a week.
The Europe international trips were the result of my mom saving up for years by writing free-lance articles for local newspapers so she could take me.

Long term competition, long term threat to the petro-dollar, long term threat to the US being in charge of the world.
I'd rather Europe peaceful, but broken up into 20 different economies and currencies to ensure there will never be a rival chef in the west.
