It’s not extra, it’s priority.

Get rid of the cell phone, the cable, the Netflix and pay for what matters. Funny how people have extra money for all the things they don’t need.

Not for a family plan. I pay a little over 500 a month for a family plan.

I pay about the same, a bit less. It is insane that families are paying $7 to $8 thousand a year for health insurance. That is such a waste of resources and a drag on the economy. And I say that as someone in the insurance industry, tangentially at least.

PurpleSingularity
for a family of 5. I get to pick my doctors, I don’t need referrals to see specialists, and co-pays are typically $20.

What is all this noise about stealing healthcare from people? Who are these people that don’t have affordable healthcare?

That's not the entire cost. You have some subsidized by the government or your employer.

Many do not. They just read what they have to pay and think that's the whole cost.

I had a small business so I paid for my health ins.

When I had insurance, the cheapest I could find was through United HC and it was over $400/mth for a shitty bronze level plan with an $11,000 deductible. Which was worthless b/c I could never reach the deductible unless something catastrophic happened.

Before Obama fricked everything up, I had a great plan with BCBS for $192/mth with a $2k deductible.

I don't know who these people are that are finding affordable individual plans. The prices through the healthcare.gov/marketplace were astronomical.

Not that much cheaper. Health insurance has risen precipitously specifically because of Obamacare.

I’m well aware. And if one is self employed and is struggling to pay his or her health premiums, might I suggest that they’re not very successful in their business venture and go back to working for an employer? I know health premiums are high if you’re paying the full amount, but if you’re unable to pay that as a self employed person then you’re probably struggling to pay everything else too.

$700, how nice. We pay $2,400/month as a small mom and pop type shop. Sure seems affordable to me.

OP, I doubt that $700/month is the entire bill. Go check your last W2 and look at Box DD. That will be the entire cost of your healthcare insurance. I'm guessing that your employer is pitching in to some of the cost as it sounds like you have a PPO.
To anyone interested in their true cost, go look at that W2 DD block. If you purchased your own insurance that DD block could be added to your check, and be subject to taxes as your insurance benefits currently are.

Which means you are probably paying a couple hundred or so for yours and the rest is going to pay for the deadbeats like the first guy who responded to you

That is completely untrue, anyone could go get an insurance plan through an insurance broker and often times they were much cheaper. The ACA is about subsidies not access

Why have insurance at all? Just save the money in a high yield savings account and use it if you need it.

Before the ACA, i knew a lot of people who were denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions. The one thing Obamacare got right was getting rid of that garbage.
