I can find several sources which state that the percentage of rapes which result in pregnancy is widely accepted to be 5%. (NCBI, from articles in the National Institues of Health)
Then I see that there are approximately 32,000 of these pregnancies per year.
That would equate to 640,000 cases of rape per year in the US.
Yet, the highest number of rapes per year that I can find reported is 250,000 (source: RAIIN, Victims of Sexual Violence)
Even accepting the fact that not all rapes are reported, that's a huge discrepancy.
Where is the disconnect, or am I just missing something? Honest question

Where are the numbers pulled from? It may only count pregnancies past a certain point (ruling out miscarriages etc) for the 32,000, while the 5% is a generic number regarding chance of pregnancy for unprotected sex on average in the population.

The 5% was from this article:
Holmes, Melisa M.; Resnick, Heidi S.; Kilpatrick, Dean G.; Best, Connie L. (1996). "Rape-related pregnancy: Estimates and descriptive characteristics from a national sample of women". American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology

"estimated 32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year."

58% of all statistics are made up.

My guess is that their 5% number would include estimates for “all rapes”, even ones not reported.
I would also assume that rapes resulting in pregnancy are reported at a higher frequency.
Just a few ideas.

Yeah, I thought that as well. But still, there's too big of a gap in reported rapes and pregnancies.

I'd have to know the methodology. If the determination of rape is "The woman said she was raped" then the problem is that women lie about rape constantly. It's what they do.
If, OTOH, the determination of rape = the actual conviction of the perp and sentencing to prison for rape then the incidence rate of pregnancy is probably less than .01% of abortions.
The much larger issue is incest. This is not forcible rape. This is sex between girl and dad and does involve pregnancy. It does happen a LOT more than you would think. It's not discussed because it is primarily an issue with a certain 'demographic'.

I had the same thoughts, and these numbers are based on reported cases of rape, from my understanding
