Come in legally. You are the one trying to get emotional responses with the "actual, legitimate people with actual, legitimate dreams" bullshite. There is a right way to enter this country and a wrong way. If you do it the right way, all well and good. Do it the wrong way, you have to face the consequences.

Don't like the law? Fine, change it. But until then, enforce the law.

1. Is he a sub of a sub? No, he and his brother own the business...

2. Does he have his own workers comp or does he ride under yours? yes, they have GL and WC policy, I don't work with subs who don't have their own insurance, it's a pain to pull money out each pay period....we get audited every year by our insurance companies...insurance isn't optional in my way of thinking about "being in business"...

3. How much are you paying him per 1k this year vs let's say 2011? I'd have to back and look...not that much, we don't need a mason that often, when we do it's usually a decent job, I'd less than 50k a year...

4. Who provides the brick, mortar and ties?

I usually buy the brick or stone, sometimes I give them deposit monies to buy it, they always buy everything else, brick block, crush stone, sand, mortar, they sometimes do footings for me...and I might give them a deposit for concrete materials...but the other day I bought the mud direct...

kind of depends on the size...

they supply all tools, scaffold, trucks, bobcats, trailers and so forth

sound good, but as I stated earlier, we have 225000 people being bused around the country by ICE because they have a 2 year wait on court date.

so our government is deporting people and at the same time busing them in ....one big circle, it's sad...

Almost like Congress could have found a deal for amnesty, legal status with a difficult path to citizenship for those already here in exchange for a badass, difficult and impenetrable wall and ironclad regulatory regime that makes it to where no legitimate business would think of hiring an illegal after implementation of said law

Completely agree. The system is being overwhelmed(intentionally IMO) and once they are placed around the country, there will be no way to keep track of them.

24 years and he still prefers being a Mexican than an American. Oh but hes loved every bit of that American money you've given him and so has his family. I'm sure they all love America...

exactly...

I read today, we have 1 million illegals who are supposed to leave the country immediately because they failed to meet asylum requirements after we had time to investigate their situation... now we have no idea where they are

it's big mess

way bigger than we realize

Develop a small gps tracker to be implanted through a minimally intrusive procedure. They foot the bill. Completely voluntary....if they want to be here of course. I guess there would be the potential for self-removal of the device, so that would have to somehow be addressed. Im only halfway joking.

just to play devil's advocate but Democrats argue "we're the land of immigrants"

so you can keep your native country's culture while "being American"

I love Mexican food ....I even like some of their music...

they make their kids work, something many Americans are not doing

How does he become an American if you don’t give him a path to do so?

This is when you tell me with a straight face and being completely intellectually honest that the 50 year old roofer (or whatever OP said he was) with roots here for 24 years should go back to Mexico and apply for the green card you and Stephen Miller are seeking to keep from him.

Fair enough.

I probably deal with 5 illegals on a daily basis.

Construction in going to die is less than 10 years if they don't fix the immigration problem. Hispanics that are here have been Americanized and don't want to work(thanks democrats).

I'm 47 and have been in construction for 20+ years and wages for trades hasn't moved much in 30+ years. A kid with no brains can drop fries and make the same money as a kid toting lumber, shingles or brick all day. Which one will you choose?

Lot's of things need to be reconciled.

Construction could come to a halt if we kick all illegals out. It's simple, give them 30 days to apply for green cards with sponsors. If you don't have one you are gone.

Don't give me that.

How many times do you hear cash, no taxes.

I do about 5 times a day. It's their way of life. They don't believe in paying taxes and you know it.

I know a painter who was busted for 200k in back taxes...

He paid cash for everything...his payroll, materials...

IRS went off his bank deposits to establish his earnings.

He had no way of proving his expenses

Yes, that's how it works. That's how life works. People with an open mind, who travel, or at least have to interact with other kinds of people, will all tell you the same thing. It's the people who don't travel outside of their bubble, be it their hometown, or their social media/message board of choice, or their club/organization - whatever echo chamber they refuse to venture from, they just view other people and the world as whatever they're told by their small, insular group. Or by their negative experience with a single person or a few people who were somehow representatives of their entire organization/club/kind. It's natural that it's this way. But it's also, of course, unfortunate.

Doesn't change the law though.

We should have never allowed the Democrats to sell the idea in Central America that we weren't serious about our borders and immigration.

And since that cat's out the bag, we need to start rounding up cats and sending them home.

Oh you like dirt cheap contractors? Well I guess that sucks for actual American contractors who's wages are repressed because of an illegal workforce.
