Term limits - 1 and done. Do your job while not having to worry about re-election, then go home and go back to your real job. No lifetime benefits of any kind.
This alone will solve most of our problems.

Agree 100%. Term limits in Congress would solve so many problems

This is why the President of the CSA was elected to one 6-year term. Incumbent presidents can spend 1-2 years of their first term campaigning for reelection.

I definitely agree that politician should not be a lifelong career.

Serve a term limit then forced to step aside for the second term limit, but can serve again. 2 terms served max.

No lifelong government retirement package, forced to use civilian health insurance.

No one is going to vote themselves out of a job (or government benefits).

If only life were so easy as to make one simple change and solve most problems.

In the real world, there are valid objections to term limits: lack of accountability if not working toward re-election, inability of noobs to tackle complex issues, etc.

IMHO, term limits aren't a good substitute for an active, informed electorate.

Would do nothing. Only one branch of government can save this nation and that is the judicial branch. Until our judiciary is filled with honest judges that rule on the law behind a blindfold this country will continue to suffer.

6 years is too long and 2 years is too short.

Hell, Congressmen have to spend most of their 2 year term fundraising and campaigning.

I'd prefer both to be limited to two 4 year terms.

And one day a year to vote on EVERYTHING (dog catcher, president, drainage propositions...whatever!). I don’t care if it took me 20 minutes to vote. Of course that day would always have to be on TAX DAY...as motivation!

We already have them. They're called elections.

Term limits allow lobbyists and special interests to determine elections much easier.

Campaign finance reform is the real answer.

Do you not think experience is worth anything? Do you want to surround yourself with new employees? Do you think you would be productive if you changed jobs every 2 or 6 years? Etc. Sure, there are people in office that I think are unqualified and I think many poor decisions are made with eyes on the next campaign, but I think one term is an extreme cure that would be worse than the disease.
