I think it's funny how the OP outed his sister and her husband for not being intelligent and has not come back to defend their stupidity !

Well frick. I'm in contract work. I work with people who have been with MY organization in CONTRACT work for 20 fricking years. And, they have benefits! And, we all make 6 fricking figures. Not only am I in contract work. I TURNED TOWN a GS job to stay in contract work!
I never said it was a bad thing, I am also a 1099 / contract worker and enjoy it. Contract / gig work is going to be a huge improvement for the average worker(as I said in my post); however, also like I said, it typically results in a lack of benefits and given various increases in costs of living (rent / healthcare) and costs of education to get these jobs - result in a wage which doesnt allow most people to start and support a family. Which was my original point.
We can simplify it though, why arent young people starting families at the same rates as in the past? Is it credit card debt and poor choices by a whole generation or is it possible that current economic factors provide an incentive to NOT have children?

Worldview would be the primary reason. Plenty of poor people across the world start and sustain families.

I never said it was a bad thing,
You literally acted like the fact 90% of new jobs fell into this category was somehow a negative indicator. Sheesh. At least be honest.
quote:Well, I make roughly 15K more per year than my government counterpart and, I still could get benefits via the company if I needed them. Just not as good as the govt counterpart. So, it's a wash.
however, also like I said, it typically results in a lack of benefits
quote:WTF are you talking about. Contract work can and does pay fricking quite well.

quote:A lot of that is purely cultural. Every nation that has become more affluent has seen birth rate reductions.
We can simplify it though, why arent young people starting families at the same rates as in the past?
If it logically followed that birth rates were down because of people being poor, India would have zero population issues.
quote:Nope. It's mostly that people are me me me and children represent sacrifice.
Is it credit card debt and poor choices by a whole generation or is it possible that current economic factors provide an incentive to NOT have children?

You're opinion is a joke. Incrementalism had always been pushed by the left in healthcare. That is how we have our system. S combination of good intentions and destructive economic ramifications for having them. The corporatists party is all of Washington don't kid yourself. You sound like a moron blaming one side.
I'm blaming both, for the status quo. I will blame the Democrats for a push for socialized medicine, and I will blame the GOP for labeling the status quo as anything close to capitalism and not corporatism.

you have a finite window to create and shape human lives. If you're waiting until you can afford children, you will never have children.
This is an unbelievably stupid statement.
