Well the best case scenario is a severe overreach because the evidence was flimsy and putting a spy in the Trump campaign and wiretapping him is an EXTREME action filled with conflicts of interest. The worst case is a lot of people are going to jail because this goes a lot further than Watergate. The real nasty stuff in Watergate was the coverup. This would be an active usage of the most powerful elements of the government to spy on an opposing campaign and then trying to utilize that as a coup de tat after that campaign won anyway.

Easy just agree with them and tell them he'll have operatives inside the DNC for the 2020 elections, it's for their own protection

The real question is, if they had a spy because of a fake dossier, why the hell do they need a year long investigation to try and find something....shouldn't their "spies" have the details?

If they actually had concerns about Flynn, they were obligated to suspend his clearance and investigate him from top to bottom to determine if it could be re-instated or revoked. But they didn't do that, thereby commiting crimes and demonstrating an element of the conspiracy to manufacture all of the nonsense we see today.
