I'm not a fan of Manchin. If there was ever a person that plays both sides of the fence this is the guy. At first I think he enjoyed the "power" with this divided Senate where he could use this position to get as much pork for his state as possible.

The left is all over his arse for not allowing some of the hyper-liberal items they want to push. It's become a relentless dogging everywhere he turns.

Here's the question: Will he be able to continue to straddle the fence or will he have to make the choice of falling in line with the Dem's or make the jump to the GOP which would flip the power in the Senate?

Don't be stupid. The "Manchin's" and "McCains" are there by design. You really think there isn't a Uniparty?

The system is designed so nobody gets what they want electorally.

The right gets tax cuts for millionaires but nothing on social issues. The left gets gay pride but nothing on worker protections. The result is every Fortune 500 company flying a rainbow flag and wealth inequality at absurd levels. And that's they way they want it. Oh, also, 100% complete support for Israel. Curious.

Exactly.

It's WWE and he's one of the designated heels.

Schumer is calling the shots.

Don't think individually. Think systematically.

Schumer certainly is their man on the ground in the Senate, just as they have "men on the ground" in nearly half of the Cabinet level positions and "men on the ground" in charge of essentially every media outlet.

You make it sound like Chuckie doesn't want some of these hyper-liberal items to pass like ending the filibuster, packing the SCOTUS.

They only rationale that I can deduce is he would be a afraid that in the future when the Senate flips that the same dirty tricks get rebounded on the Dems

I've often wondered if the Congress is and has always been a collection of role players; i.e., even if you replace all the bad actors, another set of identically performing characters would arise. Seems so with the GOP, Flake and McCain are gone but Romney and Cassidy arise, and that has always been the case.

Right. I'm no fan of Bezos.
But I'm a huge fan of American Exceptionalism.

Jeff Bezos is first generation money. He went from a short-order line cook at McDonald's to the world's richest man in half a lifetime.

Meanwhile US median HH income basically doubles that of France, the UK, Germany, etc.

It's called Finkelthink. Yes, it's all a show. Always has been.

It's nothing more than political opportunism, aka weasels. Romney ran for POTUS as a "severe conservative". Then he moved to Utah where he'd have his best shot at election. Once elected he calculated his best chance as playing lead RINO. Get Trump out in 4yrs, then possibly run again as POTUS. The problem is an ill-informed electorate putting rubber-spined weasels in office.

I'd bet money you're right.

He works for the oligarchy. Manchin and Sinema (and the meanie parliamentarian) help him do nothing and get away with it. The Bernie Bros call it villain rotation.

He has the perfect setup right now. He can do nothing and send out fundraising letters blaming Yertle for everything. The suckers will send money.

Manchin is anti court-stacking, anti new states, and anti HR1. You better throw flowers at his feet next time you see him. The most powerful Republican in DC is a Democrat.

Sen. Joe Manchin’s defiant statement that he will not vote for a sweeping election reform bill nor vote to get rid of the filibuster has progressive groups and some Democratic lawmakers wondering when Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) will get tough with the West Virginia Democrat.

Manchin is a member of Schumer’s leadership team and Schumer has several points of leverage, including the power to replace him as chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

But Schumer doesn’t have a reputation for getting tough with colleagues. Instead, he keeps them close and hardly ever criticizes Democratic senators who cause him headaches. Schumer is up for reelection next year, and there is speculation he could be challenged in a primary.

Manchin on Monday said Schumer never pressures him, despite growing frustration among progressive activists and other Democratic senators who worry that President Biden’s agenda could stall on Capitol Hill.

“No, he never does. He realizes he’s from New York and I’m from West Virginia, two different places,” Manchin said.

Former President Trump won West Virginia last year with 69 percent of the vote.

I'm convinced if he did this Lisa Murkowski would meet him at the top of the fence moving in the opposite direction. He needs to stay where he is.

I find the media extremely interesting.

At first they tried to paint Manchin as a hero to the left who was trying to build up a consensus on issues.

When he didn't eventually swing support back to biden now everyone is starting to call him a traitor because he doesn't want to end the country.

They are pissed he won't end the filibuster. They are posed they can't expand the Supreme Court. They are posed that biden 153257976 trillion dollar budget packed with essential idiocy might not be passed.

They are applying a ton of pressure to both dem holdouts.
