When that time comes, it’ll be too late. Finding qualified applicants to become Law Enforcement is almost impossible. Nobody wants that job. Even in small towns where the work load is minimal. Some smaller jurisdictions have adjusted their budgets to pay a competitive wage and still have trouble filling vacancies.
