I assume most of you have read The Village. If not, I suggest you all do so.

I have not read The Village. Going to download it to my Kindle app right now. Thanks for the tip.

Don't get me into a discussion about Light versus Heavy formations. My background (both enlisted and as an officer) is primarily in light, airborne and special operations forces. We have a huge advantage in terms of getting to the fight quickly. Staying power does become problematic. We have to assume a degree of risk when you employ those types of forces. But risk can be mitigated with proper support. Too often (as you have pointed out before), we are risk averse (for good reasons - we are often left hanging by a policy maker in DC who has no clue) to a fault. It is a cultural thing within the military.

AF Wings are pretty straight forward.

Thanks bro. The only part I was not clear on was the support/enabling elements. Were they organic or attached. That helps.

For the most part organic, we do however task outside of the Wing during deployments, I am sure you guys do something similar. Say we are short a Combat Crew Comm troop, I might call straightcashhomey and see if he wants to deploy with us. Well actually the functionals for that area will canvass the AF to see if onesy twosie types are interested in deploying at a certain time for X days.

I know you'll enjoy it. Pretty easy read. It has to be because it's on the Commandant's required reading list for Jarheads. Should only take a day or two to finish. It's about the the Combined Action Platoon program during the Vietnam War. One of the unknown success stories of that war. A lot of lessons to take from it.

Just downloaded it. Should be an interesting read. I am actually familiar with the CAP program in SVN (in a general sense - never read anything specifically about it). Read "Platoon Leader" by James McDonough. You should see a similar methodology (more oriented towards kinetic but similar).

I'll definitely check it out. There is plenty of kinetic in The Village. It's just not the focus of the unit. They're main goal was to get the locals to fight with them. And then get them to want to fight for themselves and their village.

Also, check out my thread below and give me your thoughts if you're so inclined sir.

So the first full year on this base I can get tasked for a deployment. Im not complaining but I'm going to be pissed if I get sent to UAE or some shite and not Afghanistan or Africa.
