Precisely. Same with the little girl who was shot on the highway in Houston, earlier in the month.

When you make up these stories, you're doing so with the intent to place blame on a particular group of people, based almost solely on the color of their skin. That fits the description, doesn't it?

The danger with additional penalties for "hate crimes" is that it tiptoes the line into thought police territory. It's not just enough that you mugged someone, but you had malice in your heart because the victim was black/brown/yellow/Jewish, etc? That's scary.

I wanted to see if our TD favorite had said anything @ClarkePerkins (the LSU noose girl), but she’s made her Twitter private.

I had never heard of him before this. Now that I'm positive he's a radical nut (based on his twitter posts alone), I'll make it a point to forget I ever did.
