I certainly understand perjury while under oath, but lying to law enforcement while being interrogated should not be illegal.

How has this held up under legal scrutiny?

The government can lie to you all day long and it's not illegal for them to do so.

Because the Feds rule this country.

This is how they win 99% of their cases...by threatening you with prosecution by trying to save your arse.

They simply over-charge and intimidate and trials are mostly for show. Plea-bargain because the defendant knows he's going to lose.

Never vote for someone for political office where it says they are a former Federal Prosecutor.

Why don't you try it and tell us how it turns out.

frick you. I can’t have a discussion with Wikipedia.

Why don’t you troll the whole site and post Wiki links to every question asked.

Of course they do, but this seems like it would be unconstitutional.

How? And do not say freedom of speech because it would not apply in this case.

In Mississippi, they charge you with disturbing the peace if you lie to a police officer

I don’t know. That’s why I’m asking.

It seems very un-American.

Why don’t other levels of law enforcement make the same laws?

Why don’t municipalities or states make it illegal to lie to their law enforcement?

You don't even have to lie to the Feds to be charged with lying to the Feds. If your statement to them conflicts with another's memory of the same set of circumstances, that is sufficient to sustain a charge of lying to the Feds. I wish more people were aware of the ruthlessness of Federal law enforcement agencies. They don't give a shite about you. They want to win.

Now that's just retarded.

Because usually when you lie to cops they charge you after the fact with obstruction of justice.

But most states have..."making false statements to a police officer" as a distinct crime.

That’s not true. The Feds care about the Constitution and about the law. And they are impeccably honest and ethical in all circumstances. If they make mistakes, they are small and not worthy of comment.

And that’s what the guy that lives at this IP address who may or may not be in a government database feels.

Well, you do have the right to remain silent and just not answer their questions.

When you have the right to remain silent who really cares? Just don’t talk to them and you don’t have to worry about lying.
