We should just start breaking up the states into smaller states. Help eliminate the power of the concentrated democrats.
Two of the last five elections have seen a Republican lose the popular vote but win the Electoral vote thanks to Republican power being concentrated in the smaller states whose citizens' votes count proportionally more than the votes cast by citizens in the more largely populated (and usually Democratic) states. What you say doesn't compute.

I have a feeling that if we add a 51st state, there will have to be a compromise that splits another state in half to even out the left/right stuff so we go with 52.

If we go Puerto Rico, and it looks like a Democratic state, take a chainsaw down the center of Texas. If PR looks Republican, there may be a state line running through the Fresno Valley.

No citizen's "vote" for president counts for more than any other. The EC is the vote. Deal with it.

Now here's a great example of liberal corkscrew thinking. After applying basic 8th-grade math to this, I've failed to extract a crumb of logic from it. Does this respondent fail to grasp the basic concept of the relationship between population base and the corresponding electoral votes and the free choice of the citizens within the respective state borders?? He's blaming the water for finding the hole in the boat.

We've currently got two traditionally Democrat South Texas congressional districts, so my earlier nomination to give South Texas back to Mexico may be on hold for now.

I vote Republican and like the electoral college.

But my vote counted more in Louisiana than it does in New York.

Reminds me of McDonald's. They originally had grilled pineapple on a bun instead of the fish sandwich

What is crazy about Taiwan eventually becoming a U.S. territory and perhaps even a U.S. State at some point in the future? It wasn't long ago the idea of Hawaii as a U.S. state seemed absurd.

Hawaii is a U.S. State for one purpose: Military strategic value.

Taiwan has the same value. And if the Taiwanese ever wanted to at least become a U.S. territory, I'm sure the U.S. would strongly consider it considering how close it would put our military to China as a military counter to China.

Plus, if Taiwan became a territory, we could pull troops from Japan and maybe South Korea. Japan would love us for that. Taiwan would love us for protecting their independence from China. And China and North Korea would think twice about dumbfrickery in that that region.

Nothing but win.

Yeah, because we took it so kindly when the Russians tried to do the same thing to us.

Instead replying with asshattery, perhaps you should tell us why this idea is stupid. Read below...

I don't necessarily believe Taiwan will become a territory or state any time soon, but it's not beyond possibility. The U.S. has many territories spread out across the globe. Several in the Pacific. Taiwan loves democracy. Loves independence from China. Taiwan also knows China could destroy it at any moment. The only reason Taiwan is still independent is because of the political backing from the United States.

If Taiwan had to choose between becoming another territory of China or a territory of the United States, I think it's pretty clear who Taiwan would choose as their overlord.

Fact is, they'll likely need to make that choice sooner than later. They have a hungry tiger climbing their back fence. Only a matter of time before that tiger is rampaging in the back yard...

Puerto Rico should be absolutely first before any other.

Taking on another state would be a financial commitment beyond what we would be willing to part with at this time I believe, it's not high priority at all
