Trump is against FISA unless it comes attached to the SAVE Act.
How about pass the SAVE Act and frick FISA altogether? That would be super.
The GOPe has the power to do this, which is what 70% of voters on BOTH SIDES want. Instead, they're going to extend FISA and say frick the SAVE Act. That's what they do.

It’s almost impressive how fast the tone shifted. One day they’re quietly extending warrantless surveillance on Americans with barely a debate, and the next they’re acting like the Republic is ending because Congress refused to rubber-stamp it again. Suddenly every former spook and their media stenographers remembered how much they care about checks and balances.
They’re not grieving the loss of some sacred national security tool. They’re panicking because the same people who just blocked FISA renewal also put Bill Pulte in position to start asking uncomfortable questions.
And right on cue, a quiet little memo drops that forces agencies to actually inventory their systems and answer to real deadlines instead of hiding behind “consistent with applicable law” forever.
That’s the part they don’t want discussed. Not Pulte’s résumé. Not some abstract debate about oversight. The real fear is that someone might finally get a clean picture of what’s actually been running off the books for years.
So they do what they always do. They reach for the fear script. “Unknown territory.” “Threat level highest it’s ever been.” Anything to avoid admitting the obvious: a lot of very powerful people just lost one of their favorite shadows, and they’re terrified of what happens when the lights start coming on.
The Blob can cry about democracy all it wants. The rest of us noticed who started hyperventilating the second their unaccountable little kingdom got slightly less unaccountable.
