I don’t condone any of that but the hypocrisy of Congress acting like he’s a bastard is pretty sick when they’re no better and they sell us out to the highest bidder and cover other sexual assaults and crimes

Also in my mind as a conservative Republican I believe in due process and innocent until proven guilty. If they had a legit case he would be charged and fried because of his enemies. Congress should be taking care of us not fricking around and then making a media spectacle out of this as a hit piece.

They spent less than a week with this recent CR but have spent years on this case.

They didn’t even have the information from the DOJ. Otherwise, you’re spot on.

For good measure, they believe that every dollar that he gave his long-time girlfriend was for sex and/or drugs because she asserted her 5th amendment rights.

Why is law enforcement not investigating this

The FBI did for three years and found nothing. This is purely intended to take Gaetz out of politics.

If there is nothing to it, he should re-take his position in Congress.

Allowing the enemy to take out your best people with polite society rules is how you lose.

Then Gaetz should take his elected seat in 2025, correct?

Causal fallacy. The Biden DOJ didn’t find enough to even attempt getting an indictment. That tells you all you need to know. Of course, your TDS causes you to use poor logic to dismiss this and make the ridiculous post you did. You’re slowly turning into Texridder.

Even the DOJ could see this was a set-up, especially after the bribery, the fake ID, they knew ….

The ethics committee waste time on this BS so they don’t have to look into illegal congressional stock trading

Why wasn’t he allowed to use the slush fund to make this go away like the others in Congress?

This is a great question, which leads to this one...Did all of the requests for payments from the slush fund trigger ethics committee investigations?

I suspect the slush fund applies just to allegations made by congressional employees...will research.

UPDATE: It looks like the slush fund involves only workplace disputes:

"In 1995, Congress passed the Congressional Accountability Act (CAA), which applied civil rights, labor, health and workplace safety laws to the legislative branch. It established the Office of Compliance (OOC) to administer the act, as well as a Treasury Department account to pay out settlements and awards.

The OCC reported in 2017 that 264 settlements or awards were paid under the CAA from FY 1997 to FY 2017, totaling $17.2 million – far lower than the amount cited by Owens.

These 264 payouts were not broken down by the nature of the allegation, but they include more than just sexual harassment claims. Cases involving discrimination on the basis of race, age or disability, as well as disputes dealing with contracts or pay are covered under the CAA."

feel like you’re throwing around a lot of legal jargon that may not apply here. It’s not a criminal case or civil case. I don’t even know if it’s really an administrative proceeding.

Do House rules require due process in the form of a trial here? This seems more like J6 kangaroo court garbage. I don’t like that it happened, but there isn’t much you can do about it because it’s a phony proceeding. What fundamental right to privacy was breached? Did they illegally obtain his texts? What laws were broken in releasing this info?

The ethics committee is a government body. Therefore, there is “state action.” Where there is state action, our rights protected under the constitution come into play. Ergo, he was entitled to due process of law in the course of the ethics proceedings. If they violated those, that’s actionable- either in the sense of reversing any sanction, or, in what I think is germane to Gaetz’s case, suing the members of the committee for abuse of process/malicious prosecution, invasion of privacy, and violation of his constitutional rights causing damage to him.

The ethics proceedings are meant to be confidential. It is my understanding that the Congressional rules require it. When documents/info are “confidential”, the holder of them has a legal duty not to disclose them. If these confidential docs are disclosed, even if they are true facts, civil liability (money damages) may attach, especially when such release was done in bad faith. (The tort is called public disclosure of private facts - when true facts are exposed for the purpose of embarrassing someone else; or using true facts to place someone in a false light). Here, a political hit job meant to avenge Kevin McCarthy is the exact kind of improper and bad faith motive which would allow recovery under malicious prosecution, abuse of process, and invasion of privacy tort principles.

Just bc nobody ever has the balls to do anything about it, does not mean that something cannot be done.

Incidentally, there is at least one private citizen named in the report about whom the report makes false allegations. All of the above rights and causes of action would apply to him too. His atty demanded a retraction, which I bet is a prerequisite to avoiding a SLAPP defense in Fla. (Louisiana doesn’t require such).

A SLAPP action is a defense by a civil defendant who can get an early dismissal of a defamation/ privacy tort claim and get his atty fees. Ex: Trump filed a SLAPP action against Stormy when she sued him for defamation, which is how he got his fees back.

The above action by Gaetz and his buddy against this “committee” and the members and McCarthy, I don’t see as being susceptible to a SLAPP action, because the lawyer demanded a retraction and because all this shite was done in bad faith.

It’s a problem and I hope Gaetz sues the snot out of these assholes so this shite stops happening.

They already released the report. You’re wishcasting using a logical fallacy. You’re texridder.
