What does due process have to do with this situation?
Is Gaetz being deprived of life, liberty, or property by the Ethics committee?

Matt’s on our team; this is too much transparency!

He had no opportunity to cross his accusers. The committee heard one side (which the fricking Biden DOJ didn’t believe…and we know how benevolent they are) and issued a report. It’s a complete smear job. Anyone With half a brain should be furious over this.

I think it’s selective transparency that is the issue here.

You’re such a smug prick. You know what this is, but because he isn’t on your team you’re delighted at this obvious smear. Gates may be a sleaze, but to support this makes you a piece of shite.

This has zero to do with transparency. This is about as legitimate as the J6 committee. It’s disgusting. Anyone supporting it is a piece of shite.

Of course. But if one wants to go with the transparency route then I think it’s also important that the transparency is selective.

He isn’t being charged. Nothing is being taken from him. He doesn’t have a right to face the committee in that context.

I guess you need more than half a brain to understand when due process is implicated.
A report being a one-sided political hit doesn’t invoke due process either.

Rightly so

He has recourse in the courts if he feels that way. He’d lose quickly, but the avenue is there.
Still isn’t a due process issue.

The Ethics Committee obviously found evidence.
Well what evidence did they find that the law enforcement agencies that investigated this for several years did not? Given the incredibly low bar to get a grand jury to indict someone, it sure as hell must not have been convincing.

Given the fact Trump just wrong $15,000,000 out of ABC over false rape claims, I wouldn't be so sure there.

No amount of money can compensate for a damaged reputation

I never said that it was. But you said he hasn't lost anything and I'm saying he stands to lose the most valuable thing he has

It’s a clear abuse of government power. It may not be traditional due process, but to say there is no issue here is disingenuous. Defending what happened makes you a piece of shite.

ABC broadcasting known lies and settling the claim and suing a congressional committee for a report are about as far apart as you can be when it comes to defamation/similar suits.

I’m not “defending” anything, other than all ethics reports being released across the board.
If there was an actual due process problem here, then I’d be outraged as well. But there isn’t.
I don’t care about Matt Gaetz’s political career or whatever he does to make himself rich going forward.

Because Matt Gaetz had a sterling and valuable reputation before this? Lol

Let’s see who the payouts from the Congressional Slush Fund were to and in who’s behalf. It’s taxpayer money, we have the right to know!

There is a world of difference between being thought of as a boozing skirt chaser and being thought of as a rapist.
