But no one really knows. What we do know right now; is that it strictly being genetic has not been proven. Hence, they aren't just born with it.

I used to be a big Nurture over Nature guy too. Then I had kids. Now, I'm a big Nature guy. If you have a troubled kid, there's no amount of Nurture that overcomes that. Trust me.

I'm not reading 23 pages of this shite. Has anyone pointed out how the link in the OP goes to a pastor's website which in turn links to a dead website?

Can anyone give a link to these studies being published in a peer reviewed journal?

You keep harping on naming this one "gay gene". Personally, I don't think there will ever be just one gene identified as the culprit. I read a an article several years ago that it is more like a series of genes (and not always the same ones) that kind of get out of sequence to make one more inclined to being gay as they age. Hence, there won't be a test developed that can predict an individual's sexual preference going forward. I will look for the article but am busy right now.

Skeptics always use the Trump card that the studies have not been published in a peer reviewed journal as a way to debunk something they don't believe in.

Just because the studies haven't been published in a peer reviewed journal yet, that isn't proof the conclusions of the studies aren't correct.

Yeah this whole thread is based on an opinion article with a broken link. There are some very unscientific conclusions which were reached in that article. Basically they're saying that people cannot be born gay because there are many examples of one identical twin being gay and one being straight? It shouldn't come as a surprise that sexual orientation is not defined by one specific gene.

If homosexuality is caused by genetics or prenatal conditions and one twin is gay, the co-twin should also be gay. “Because they have identical DNA, it ought to be 100%,” Dr. Whitehead notes.

So, if sickle cell anemia is genetically related to race (specifically, African-Americans), then all African-Americans should have sickle cell anemia, and if less than 100% do, we can rule out race as a factor in sickle cell anemia?

quote:

“If an identical twin has same-sex attraction the chances the co-twin has it are only about 11% for men and 14% for women.”

That seems like a pretty substantial departure from the percentages for random people in the population, a statistically significant one, in fact. This would be extremely strong evidence for a genetic basis.

Your link is to a religious website run by a pastor. Not exactly a credible source.

I mean it's almost as if that gives a way to verify that what we are reading isn't outright lies. I'm not saying that having something published in a peer reviewed journal is the end all be all truth of the world. It does, though, create at least some credibility.

This is a thread based on a pastor's opinion piece. I don't think it is crazy to want a little more than that.

But the fact that they haven't been published in a peer-reviewed journal when the guy pushing them is clearly on a religious mission, and that many journals would accept the study if valid because of the impact...that's a pretty good indicator that they're biased.

We don't need any of that shite. We have the Jesus scientists in the thread to tell us what to make of it all.

I think you're missing the point entirely.

It's funny that none of you can point to a scientific study that says there is a gene that will cause homosexuality. Yet you want us to believe in this SCIENCE!

how about this does it matter if they were born that way? i have 2 first cousin's who are gay. One is 15yrs younger than me and by the age of 4 the entire family new he was gay. My other cousin (same age as me) came out of the closet when he was in his mid 20's. Cousin #2 being raised strict Pentecostal had every thing to do with him waiting so long to come out of the closet. I thought he was gay when we were teenagers. If you believe in Jesus then you believe he will judge them once they get to the pearly gates. so in the mean time let the gays be gays and go on with your life.

It doesn't matter.

Just don't use "science" to back up your claim when, in essence, there is nothing scientifically saying it's true.

That's all.

Why such the big deal about people wanting to know the truth?

What is being hidden and why does it have to be this way?

ETA by the age of four? Smh. Hyperbole much?

It's got to be either the gay boogeyman under the bed or allowing kids to watch the smurfs!!!

Nah. I think it's for politicking to a group of "victims" that aren't really victims.

More and more gays are supporting Trump.

It'll be a miracle if they flip before the AA population.
