In the N.O. thread about this you argued with me for pages when I said charters were independent of board overwatch

The school board/district authorizes some charters. BESE also authorizes charters. School boards can rescind or terminate charters or extend them.

Now youre telling me thats what is happening in all of Bakers schools
it looks like the Baker school board authorized these charters.

3 former mayor/presidents of Baton Rouge came from Baker.

What the hell happened to Baker ?

As opposed to the bloated local school districts with layers and layers of do-nothing admin employees? frick that. It costs EBR almost 14k to educate a student in their system. It costs me about the same money for my kid to go to the Catholic high school. Don’t talk to me about money being siphoned off by CEOs- it happens in plain sight every year in EBR.

I don’t really know much about Baker.

This morning I saw a headline about GEO opening a charter school in Baker and I almost had a heart attack.

The GEO group is a for-profit prison scheme. Upon investigating, the GEO school in Baker is something else not affiliated with the prison industrial complex.

Baker was a great bedroom community for decades. Then it slowly shifted. Then it shifted massively to where it is now. First hand experience. Education system has/had a lot to so with it. Directly and indirectly.

Would you say education declined after Baker split into its own school district?

Absolutely made it worse, but it was declining rapidly before hand

What do you think caused it?

A lot of it had to do with what dallastiger said earlier- delays. So many people moved out, the old guard was dying off, land locked, not much room for expansion, no oversight worth a hoot, etc. Loss of tax revenue ensued-baker has city sales tax. I mean they have speed traps at every single entry point to the city, every one.

More obvious corruption in the great state of Louisiana.

I’m with ya cubbies - screw public schools and all the public school employees. Return the taxes to the people and let parents decide if and how their kids get educated. Can’t be worse than what we got now.

Holy shite you're retarded. Incorporating into a non-profit doesn't mean a management company was involved. The school was and still is run by a board populated mainly by parents who receive no compensation.

You being a dumbass doesn't mean I'm being deceptive.

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round...

Figured that was appropriate given the thread and the MO of the OP. What a disaster this thread is. Goodness. Another failed gotcha at every turn.
