If you want that, you have to start addressing it like we did cigarettes. Ad campaigns showing the diseases that it causes, shock tactics, etc.
So instead of the government feeding children healthier foods at school lunches -
you propose the government forcing the purveyors of unhealthy foods to place warnings on their foods?
Somehow that doesn't strike me as less government intervention.
Especially considering we know its really mindset that causes obesity, not unhealthy food.
BTW - whatever we're doing lately - its right:

Instead of catering junk food ads to kids, make it illegal.

Because children need to be responsible for their own decisions and their parents just shouldn't let them watch television.

What? Don't just casty me without a response.
I just saw a Pizza Hut ad with the new ninja turtles movie.
Read up on it. It is known that junk food ads are targeted at kids. There has been a lot of research on it. Happy meals, unhealthy cereal, etc.
Ultimately, parents are to blame. And it's also known that obesity is more rampant in the poor.

Wait, poor people are poor decision makers?
Stop the presses.
How about we let people start feeling some of the consequences of their poor decision making?

Like I said, I just saw a Pizza Hut ad with the ninja turtles. Kids see it and want that shite.
Ultimately, it is the parents fault. The obesity epidemic in this country isn't going anywhere. Best thing that can be done is to make the fattening and unhealthy foods less appealing.

That's just a convenient excuse for our failure to do anything about the issue collectively.
For instance, our failure to ban crap like this:

In the UK advertising to children is restricted. In Norway - its straight up illegal to advertise to children under 12. I would have no problem with that. If you can't sell your product by advertising to the parents - then too bad.

How would you suggest doing this?

So instead of the government feeding children healthier foods at school lunches -

No one reads warning labels anyway.

That article is very good news, but you should read the entire thing. This is a problem throughout society, and as great as it is that the rate in 2-5 year olds is falling, the rest of society has stayed the same or worsened.

She cautioned that these very young children make up a tiny fraction of the American population and that the figures for the broader society had remained flat, and had even increased for women over 60. A third of adults and 17 percent of youths are obese, the federal survey found. Still, the lower obesity rates in the very young bode well for the future, researchers said.

I don't need the do gooder Gov making MORE rules to live by.

By not subsidizing poor decision making.

Paid for by who? The nanny state?

That was my point.
But I get as a reply.
Ever been in a grocery store and see a kid screaming for a candy bar because Spider-Man is on it? It's targeted advertising.
And I'm agreeing with you. I want to right now.
But I get as a reply.

You mean - like - by trying to get kids to eat their vegetables? Last time I check Republicans have steadfastly opposed and ridiculed all such efforts.

You're exactly correct. I have no idea how its "overreach" for the federal government to place conditions on what kinds of foods may be bought to feed children with our taxes. It just seems like common sense to me, actually.
So you're ok with restricting what foods can be purchased with food stamps?

Thousands of share holders? Got a link to how many share holders own Hobby Lobby?

I agree with you 100% on everything.

The word "no" worked well in our household, or are Democrats considering that "child abuse" nowadays?
