So a few months ago I listened to this podcast by Darryl Cooper. It’s a 6 part series called Fear and Loathing in the New Jerusalem. It’s one of the best, most comprehensive, history podcasts I’ve ever listened to. The format and depth is very similar to Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History podcasts.

I encourage everyone to listen, because it really sheds light on aspects of this conflict most people simply do not know. The podcast covers the beginning of Zionism in the late 1800s and ends with the founding of Israel in 1948.

It’s a big commitment, 6 episodes that are a combined 23 or so hours. I listened during commutes and downtime at work, but I was so enthralled I finished it in just a week.

I’m overall pretty neutral on this conflict. That might seem like a lie if you’ve paid attention to some of my posts lately because I’ve been harshly critiquing Israel, but that is simply because this board is overwhelmingly pro Israel and people by and large use extremely weak talking points, and the truth needs to be pointed out (oh no, that’s the same logic SoFlowPro uses )

I can’t make anyone listen, but I really recommend that you do and you won’t be sorry. Darryl Cooper is a right wing guy, has a lot of other good podcasts and even had some on Epstein and pizzagate, so he’s not some leftist loon. If you listen to this you will be more informed than anyone else you know, and everything else about this situation will start to make sense. It’s the closest thing out there to a truly neutral perspective and covers all sides in depth.

I listened on Spotify, you can also find it here

If anyone ends up listening to the whole thing, bookmark and bump this thread later so we can discuss. Thanks everyone

Damn I guess frick King Saul, and King David, and King Solomon, huh?

Israel has been a nation with its capital being Jerusalem since biblical times.

I believe I’ve listened to this podcast before and it was so heavily slanted towards “Palestine” that I had to turn it off.

No it hasn’t. But this is why zionists named it Israel. They knew rubes like you would support them no matter what because of your Scofield dispensationalist beliefs (which would have been anathema to Christians for almost 2000 years before you by the way).

I don’t believe you. The first thing the first episode does is give first hand accounts of pogroms in Eastern Europe against Jews with some heart wrenching stories.

I’m not that smart, but I enjoy reading history and am currently reading through 1 and 2 Samuel in the Old Testament. It’s all about King Saul and King David ruling the Kingdom of Israel. What do you mean by your post?

That’s great. Those are stories about a kingdom that hasn’t existed for almost 3000 years. The modern-day nation state of Israel was founded in 1948.

There’s also a country named Georgia located at the intersection of Europe and Asia. You may, however, be disappointed if you go there expecting to watch a dawgs or braves game and eat some peaches.

Any history prior to October 7 doesn't matter to me.

One group slaughtered another and in order to exist, the former group now has Carte Blanche means to defend itself.

No one of us has the moral authority to tell them how to conduct their survival.

It should. Nothing happens in a vacuum.

There’s no point in arguing with the literal insane who are fueled by blood lust.

Instead of attacking your opinion which I think is at a minimum stubborn, I’m going to empathize with you.

When October 7th happened I said to myself “this is never going to be resolved. The Palestinians won’t accept peace, they only have themselves to blame”

Then I had an epiphany and realized I really didn’t know very much about what was going on over there at all and the root causes, and I decided to change that. My perspective has been transformed.

You may read that and it only makes you feel even stronger about not wanting to know, but I just think that is a very shallow take, and I will always remember it every time you interject on the topic, that you said “I don’t care” about the history.

So what?

Oh, wait, you're saying that when it comes to nations and who owns what and whose land is whose...it changes? Based on the ability of the current occupant of the land to hold what they took? You mean that just because a certain group occupied a place once, that doesn't entitle them to lay claim of it forever under any and all circumstances?

You don't say.

The problem with that is that the only subject out there with more biased sources of information (ob both sides) is climate change.

You obviously got a hold of pro "Palestinian" revisionist history.

I can direct you to some pro-Israel revisionist history that would lead you to the exact opposite conclusion.

And while both are biased, only one of the two groups has basically been caught saying the quiet part out loud and admitting that they are lying about it.

(That would be the "Palestinians.")

In the context that it should have any decisive effect on what actions Israel should take right now.

Other than that, the history is very interesting (the good guys always win).

That the biblical Israel is not the same as the modern-day nation state of Israel. See my Georgia analogy above. Pretty straightforward.

And what I’m telling you is I’ve investigated this lately on all sides and have read both Israeli and Palestinian propaganda, and that this podcast is the most neutral thing I have ever come across.

And you also missed earlier where I said I am neutral on this conflict. Overall I am in agreement Israel should be a country, that they earned it in the most ballsy way under the most extreme circumstances.

But with that perspective I also acknowledge why the current conflict continues to exist and the obvious cause and effect timeline that will never stop. Here’s a hint, it has nothing to do with hating Jews just because they are Jews, or religious hatred, or anything like that. There are clear reasons for everything we see.

I do not tolerate being lied to or repeating propaganda. Israel can do as they wish, but their actions effect us and it is valuable to understand why.

Leftists will tell you that they are descendants of the Crusaders and deserve what they get.

All I see is that the history and the labels don't predict very well.

The best predictor is power. The most powerful group is going to take what it wants and the least powerful will yield.

Power has about a 90% track record of telling the outcome, and between Israel and Hamas, Israel has it.
