At some point no matter your ideology; once inequality of wealth becomes so great that the balance of capitalism and peace is ajar, then you must admit to yourself that some form of protectionist redistribution is in order. Progressive taxation accomplishes this without facing the reality that the pitchforks are coming. The populous is ok with being collectively poor as long as they continue believing that they still, overall have a fair shot. Once you remove that hope then they no longer have anything to lose, and soon social disorder will follow.
