83% of the government still operates regularly during a "shut down". Trump however risks that the Democrats use this as more fuel for their attacks on him and if he pushes the wall really hard, he runs the risk of Republicans abandoning him and creating veto proof votes on spending issues.
People on this board may end up being surprised at who abandons Trump on all of this if it lasts too long.
