Well go back to the system that created the greatest, most advanced healthcare system in the world. But this time remove the state boundaries so as to allow as much competition as possible.

Yeah there was a big to do over it about 18 months ago. You are just too stupid to know that.

Government has no business being in healthcare. You don't replace, you simply repeal and forget.

I don't think people understand what crossing state lines means.
More options? Yes.
More competition? Not really.
The same health costs always get passed on to the consumer. Nothing is gained by this perception of competition.
You virtually get the same concept with an Ala carte health insurance option. Eliminating state barriers on insurance isnt some magic fix to make the cost of health care (and consequently the cost of insurance ) lower.

You can keep your Doctor, prices will go down, will have to pass it to find out what's in it, etc....

Republicans really hate healthcare
They’ve gone beyond cynicism to pathology.
They’ve gone beyond cynicism to pathology.
quote:
In 2017, Republican attempts to repeal Obamacare made it clear to everyone that their party didn’t have any better ideas, and never did; everything they proposed would have devastated the lives of millions.
quote:
Then health care became the top issue in the 2018 midterms, and voters who considered it the most important issue went Democratic by a three to one margin.
So you might have expected Republicans to cut their losses. Maybe Trump could have done what he did with NAFTA: keep Obamacare basically intact, but make a few minor changes, give it a new name – the Yuge Maga Care Awesomeness, or something – and claim that it was totally different and better.

The USA does not have the best healthcare plan in the world. If you look at numbers we're somewhere between 20th and 50th, depending on the measure. Except cost. There we're #1.

Well it does increase competition. There’s no doubting that.
And of course the costs get passed to the consumer. These are companies that have to at lest be in the black to live another day.
However, if you really have an issue with state lines being eliminated, then just go back to the way it was. I now pay another mortgage payment for me and my wife. We are both in our 20’s and have no medical issues. There’s only one damn reason prices have risen this high. Not to mention that the system advocated for by the left (single payer) limits and even squashes innovation. I see absolutely no positives for this system.

Well what qualifies as being best?
As far as being “fair”, anything that has a goal of obtaining a profit is not going to be considered “fair” or cheap or whatever else.
However, in terms of innovation and technological breakthroughs, the United States reigns supreme. It’s not even close.
I live in Houston close to the medical center. Almost everyday I meet someone from a foreign country who is here to receive healthcare. Why would these people come here for healthcare if I’m their home countries they have “free” healthcare?

You are overselling it.

I don't have any issue with it. But it won't reduce the cost of your insurance. It just gives you more coverage options for what you may want to buy.
There is nothing wrong about eliminating the state lines for health insurance.
But some people act like that is a magical pill which will reduce health care costs (and consequently health insurance costs).
It isnt. I'm just asking you to be genuine and not act like the Democrats when they were selling "you will get to keep your plan and your doctor".

How am I overselling it?
If I’m wrong, then that’s fine. I have no problem being wrong if it leads me to make better decisions later. I don’t see how increasing the amount of companies to choose from can’t decrease costs. At least somewhat. Why would these companies keep prices where they are? If suddenly the state border restriction was gone, I believe that some of the companies will begin competing with others to grow their share of the market. How would they do that? If not by cost slashing, then by what means?

Ok pbhog, what do you think makes a healthcare system great?
Free shite?
Personally, I like a system that keeps costs down (not Obamacare), and one that leads to a level of innovation and technological breakthroughs that leads the world.

Okay, you run to those other 19 countries when your life is on the line. I'll be just fine in the good ole USA.
Cost is #1 simply due to government intervention and regulation. There is no other portion of the economy more regulated and controlled than health care. Get government out of the way (trial lawyers and state bans) and the price would plummet overnight.
