not from 2014 or 2015. Or are we just taking the media at its word this time?

Comes down to what you want to believe. Article quotes a few child advocates who were disturbed by the situation. Regardless of you political standing, there's a lot of people who just want to make sure these kids are taken care of. Hopefully what the article says is true about more often than not, kids under 5 years are allowed to stay with their parents. But the story about the 2 year old is pretty heartbreaking.
For the sake of these kids, I hope you guys are right and this is bunch of bull shite.

The U.S. Border Patrol on Sunday allowed reporters to briefly visit the facility where it holds families arrested at the southern U.S. border, responding to new criticism and protests over the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy and resulting separation of families.
More than 1,100 people were inside the large, dark facility that's divided into separate wings for unaccompanied children, adults on their own, and mothers and fathers with children. The cages in each wing open out into common areas to use portable restrooms. The overhead lighting in the warehouse stays on around the clock.
The Border Patrol said close to 200 people inside the facility were minors unaccompanied by a parent. Another 500 were "family units," parents and children. Many adults who crossed the border without legal permission could be charged with illegal entry and placed in jail, away from their children.
Reporters were not allowed by agents to interview any of the detainees or take photos.

What a line of total bullshite.
The Parents or the people bringing these children to our borders to try and blackmail us into letting them in are TOTALLY to blame for any situations these children are in.

Here's a novel idea:
If you want to keep your family intact, don't bring them along while you try to infiltrate a country illegally.

No, but here's a picture that was taken just yesterday of a scared little boy who got out of his cage
So typical of America under Trump.

Probably pretty traumatizing for the children traveling across Mexico too. If the parents really cared they would keep the children at home.
And anyone directly or indirectly encouraging these people to come here and to come with their children is a POS.

Give the liberals a win here. If a child or family unit show up at the border, turn them around and send them back into the desert. No need to detain.
The Mexican authorities can deal with the bodies if the buzzards don’t.
