I wouldn't hold Nicaragua up as a shining example with a happy ending.
November 2016, which the United States and others characterized as severely flawed. In advance of the elections, the Nicaraguan government sidelined opposition candidates for president, limited domestic observation at the polls, prohibited independent international electoral observers, and took other actions to degrade the legitimacy of the election.

The USSR broke up without much violence.

Civil rights are hardly "authoritarian". While they violate part of the ideology of individual rights, they protect the rights of some in a "civil" society. Probably wouldn't have been needed if outright discrimination didn't continue well into the 20th century.
I'm not sure you are accurately describing civil rights. Where is there governmental, institutional discrimination in the US today?

there was quite a bit of violence in satellite states controlled by the Kremlin.
The USSR murdered tens of millions of its own citizens during its existence.

Ortega, the former revolutionary leader, lost the first three times he ran. The supreme court down there has made some inappropriate decisions to help decide elections, but the votes have been pretty consistent nationwide. I don't vouch for the elections down there, but that is a population which certainly knows how to rise up and run someone out.
The question was chaos, etc. While the government down there is not perfect, it is not chaos and government murdering its people. That is not some "leftist thing."
