While all of that may be true and admirable (and much of it, something I wish I could say about Louisiana and New Orleans). None of it was really a factor in anything here.

what part about them planning, training for and anticipating a pandemic PLUS having a world-class medical center as a resource AND a team of top-notch executive Dr Shah, is a good man and knows his shite Harris Co. office of Emergency management know how to deal with more than just floods

You tell me. Lay out for us how that made things very significantly different from one place to the other.

Nola doesn't have those people
the training and resources

in particular, when those positions were filled years back we paid top dollar an there was an extensive search and interview process that Judge Emmett engaged in

That’s not addressing MY point AT ALL.

I’m not disputing YOUR point, of course. It’s doubtlessly correct. Although there are certain healthcare workers here on par with those anywhere else in the world.

Houston/harris should be worse off the NOLA based upon population numbers

but our emergency management infrastructure is just that much better

Well, then it should be easy to lay out what about that made things there so different.

Man, this is FALSE. It just so happened that Mardi Gras occurred before the stay at home orders. Bad luck and that’s about it.

The overwhelming majority of deaths in NOLA occurred in a single demographic, I don’t know the demographic breakdown for Harris county, but I bet if you looked it up, and compared it to the NO area you would have your answer.

quote:

New Orleans was: Black or African American: 59.74% White: 33.99% Asian: 2.90%

quote:

Houston: Hispanic or Latino residents (43.3%), 1.36M White Alone residents (28.9%), 877k Black or African American Alone residents (18.7%), 329k Asian Alone residents (6.99%), 74.6k Two or More Races residents (1.59%)

60% of all deaths in Louisiana are AA.

Ok, I apologize. But the poster named after the quarterback from Marshall, Texas, seemed to downplay the role Mardi Gras played.

I was simply moving on to another possibility.

Harris County as a whole has 4.5 times more blacks than Orleans Parish.

This might blow your mind, but 20 percent of a million is equal to 50 percent of 400,000.

Oooo yeah. I remember when 60-70% of Houston proper was underwater for 3-4 weeks because of that.

Idiot.

Well at least a third of Houston was underwater for 10-14 days. The damage was just as costly as NOLA. I am not really sure what your point is.

It took Houston as a whole no time to recover. Did NOLA ever recover?

And there’s really no comparison. From someone that has lived 5+ years in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Houston. Houston has dozens of low level municipal officials more capable of running a large city than the mayors of the two largest cities in Louisiana.

You aren’t exactly being direct in your answers. You’re just referring to nebulous “things nobody can control.”

I’m not giving answers. I’m asking questions. What was “controlled” to have made Houston different than New Orleans vis a vis the Coronavirus?

Houston has no event that rivals Mardi Gras. Comparing the exposure during the rodeo to exposure during Mardi Gras is like comparing the Superbowl to the the SWAC championship.

Correct. That is not a point that makes any sort of value statement.

shite was pure happenstance and dependent on so many things outside of anybody’s knowable control.

It was just bad luck, you say.

And your question has been answered with the superior planning and functioning of the Harris County/Houston government.

Chicago and Detroit didn’t have a Mardi Gras, but they’ve been hit hard, too.

It seems like they got ahead of it and shut things down before it had a big outbreak.

And not a single specific was given.

We “planned” ergo almost none of our people got it.

Damn, that’s fricking brilliant. Sad others couldn’t think of that. That’s awesome.
