My daughter in High School asked what happens if the government shuts down. I said nothing because we don't rely on the government for anything.

I just hope Congressional Republicans don't succumb to their nature and give in. Republicans were given a mandate in the 2024 Election. Democrats don't get to dictate terms when they are the ones out of power. They are used to being able to do that, but that has to end now.

Republicans should have a vote every day for the passing of the continuing resolution. That way it's on record the Democrats are the ones keeping Federal Government employees from getting a paycheck. That the "party of the people" could care less about people, only it's radical ideology.

This shut down needs to be long. And every Republican should be on the news saying "we are ready to continue funding the government and ensuring Federal Government employees get paid. But the Democrat shutdown ensures Federal Government employees aren't getting paid".

Also, outside of agencies still working like the TSA and State Department, Trump needs to change the policy regarding back pay for the shutdown. If you aren't essential and didn't work during the shutdown, you don't get any back pay. That would also change the game for future shutdowns.

But honestly, if I'm Republicans, I make this one long. I honestly would say keep it closed the rest of the year. Show the American people how bloated and unnecessary the vast majority of the U.S. Government is.

This is silly. Break up the bills into bite-sized pieces. 80-20 stuff. Bring up a small bill and then make the Dems vote against that. If they vote to not fund the SBA, for example, then have Trump RIF everybody at SBA. Move onto the next agency. Do this with every agency that has non-essential personnel. If the other side wants to drag it into 2026, then the next round will have new reconciliation options that the party in power CAN fund with a simple majority.

This can be a victory if the party in power will take it. "One bite at a time."

Just for the record, about 55% of federal employees are working during the shutdown and 45% are furloughed.

Dems hate America enough to shut it down for not kowtowing to their whims of funding a voting base full of illegals.

Who remembers when the Republicans shut it down from 2018 to 2019?
Pepperidge farm members.

BTW, Democrats' opposition stemmed from the Republican refusal to include an extension of enhanced health insurance tax credits under the Affordable Care Act, which were set to expire.

I just set up an M60 behind my sandbagged front door to fight off the hordes of NEE Zonbies that will be out roaming for paychecks.

We played in the thorns at ft Polk and the other squad members who carried m16s also had to carry extra belts for me/ the m60 (blanks) since I had the m60 and it was heavier.

When we simulated a battle they would have to run over to me when I ran out and help me attach the belt

Not that easy when you're under "fire" and that thing would jam every free hundred rounds and I would have to put every ounce of my weight into racking it and ejecting the jammed round.

Good times. When it was running well the barrel would turn bright red after a full belt.
