Same situation for me. Wife is MAGA. MIL is OMB, pro vaccine and so on. She’s been staying with us since last Wednesday and will be here through the 14th. I love her, she’s a kind hearted woman. But we cannot talk politics.

I grew up watching the news, morning and evening. Read multiple papers per day and had subscriptions to several news mags.
Some people do not accept nor want change. See my above post about my in-laws. The have watched the news for most of their life.
What are the numbers you think that don't watch some form of news?

I knew when I typed it. Both are wonderful ladies. I rarely talk Politics anymore with MIL but I am mystified at her not seeing what is going on.
I do mention when we get political that the Party of JFK has been dead for years. I tell her JFK would be a Republican today.

You MIL is probably of a generation that spent decades only getting their news from the 5:00 pm national news broadcast along with 6/10 local news and local news paper. She has since spent the last 2-3 decades getting news from 24 hour stations (CNN, Fox, etc.). She accepts their reporting as infallible because....she's always accepted it as infallible...because that was the only option for news for many years. She's not a critical enough thinker to understand that maybe what she is being told by those sources is biased, propaganda bullshite.
The breadth of available information has never been greater. Yet, a LARGE portion of our population still just wants to be told what to believe rather than going out and looking for it themselves because for many decades that's how we got our "news". Whatever ABC, CBS and NBC told us had to be true because "why would they lie?"
The media is the true enemy of the people. They have (or should have) lost all credibility whatsoever and their entire business model is to create division and discontent to sell views/clicks

That's seriously 90% of liberals over 60.
That's my mother to a tee. And she voted for Barry Goldwater and Lester Maddox with gusto in the 1960s. I liked her a whole lot better back then.
