Specfic details are usually a 'what if' kind of thing. Pointing out global warming itself, is not specific. It's an overall look or a more holistic approach to studying the environment.

Cultish gibberish, straight up.

This reminds me of when a smart educated girl I know was trying to tell me that cold water boils faster than hot water.

I won money in college on this one too

Someone told me recently that hot water freezes faster than cold water, and apparently there's a scientific basis for that, although there is still significant debate:

It's an event proven by heat
It's an event proven by cold

.... so how do you DISPROVE it?

You are all stupid bigots for asking questions about this.

After all, science is not about asking questions.

The level of ignorance regarding science in this thread is seriously alarming...

What were they doing 78 years ago to cause such warming?

Of course. It causes greater warming and greater cooling. It causes more hurricanes and less hurricanes, climate extremes and also periods of inactivity. It is everything to everyone, everywhere and nowhere.

And if Socrates were here today, he'd say that if something is said to be the cause of everything, it is surely the cause of nothing.

It's pretty cold on Long Island today. I think my local low was 4F. But in my 30+ years here I've seen colder a good many times. IIRC, in the late 80's and early 90's it routinely got that cold here. I recall a few below zero days. But in recent years, 20 has felt cold. In fact, in 1998, it hit 77 in early December and routinely hit into the 50's throughout the winters last year and the year before.

We've had an invasion of pine beatles in recent years that could not have survived the cold temps that hit here as recently as the early 90's. I'm hoping this cold snap kills them off.

Here is my heating oil usage in recent years: (in gallons)

2012/13 801.3
2013/14 855.5
2014/15 874.0
2015/16 696.5
2016/17 699.3
2017/18 205.1 (To Dec 23)

I installed a new system before that and my usage was considerably higher. Over 1,300 gallons some years. Most of my decreased usage is due to greater efficiency, but some of that to warmer temperatures.

NYC Heating degree days:

2016 3978
2015 4496
2014 4938
2013 4609
2012 3792
2011 4288
2010 4227
2009 4647
2008 4426
2007 4408
Normal 4777
This tracks pretty well with my usage. I do mine by season, not calendar year. Only one year since 2007 has had above normal heating degree days.

Cooling degree days are the opposite. Only one year has had lower than normal. (2009)

NYC Cooling Degree Days:
2016 1732
2015 1544
2014 1183
2013 1388
2012 1503
2011 1363
2010 1712
2009 1041
2008 1346
2007 1566
Normal 1142
