Google has signed a deal with Kairos Power to build a fleet of small modular nuclear reactors to power its data centers, the tech giant announced Monday.

The small modular reactors, a type of next generation nuclear reactor that has yet to be built in the U.S., are scheduled to be completed between 2030 and 2035 and will produce 500 megawatts of power.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai told Nikkei earlier this month that he was looking at using nuclear energy, including small modular reactors, to power the company’s data centers.

Nuclear represents a key carbon-free source of energy at a time when the tech giant is struggling to cut its emissions and reach its goal of becoming net-zero by the end of the decade. Google’s emissions rose 13 percent in 2023 and are up 48 percent since 2019. LINK

Fed Gov put a bunch of money into micro reactors, so theyre probably getting a grant.

I posted a video about those portable mini nuclear reactors. It's brilliant and very safe.
Our country will have to begin building more nuclear power plants if we ever want to power all the electric cars and moving towards more powerful AI.

There is a developing technology here, primarily in the design of the fuel pellet to be inherently self limiting and avoid runaway reactions. Pellet has been manufactured but not yet put in a first commercial application.

Electric cost rates are expected to be higher than coal and gas, but lower than wind/solar

Eventually city blocks will be powered by micro reactors.

They did ndeed. There are currently 5 companies diligently pursuing this with both government and private capital investment.
I work with three atm.
This is good for America.

The nuclear tech. will be an easier problem to solve,,,,, than the pricing contracts for power from these devices

So nuclear is no longer evil to the left? They have lectured us for years that we can’t safely dispose of the waste? What in their pea brains has changed?

Now for years conservatives have advocated nuclear energy. We have demonstrated that storage in areas of low seismic activity can be safely performed.

Nuclear to power AI = Good
Nuclear to power homes = Bad

Quite the opposite. Microsoft is taking over Three Mile Island, of all places, to utilize their nuclear infrastructure.

Some are small enough to be completely enclosed in a sea can.

Smart. With the amounts of power they plan to use they will need to bring their own.

Google is not the first one to go down this nuke path but that is all I can say. All the big data center companies are getting told "no power available" all over the country. They are now moving to varying forms of onsite power generation.

the US should have these things scattered all over the country. moronic leftists are why things are so expensive so (high energy costs = inflation)

Wind and solar will never succeed. They will die as this new technology takes hold. We almost made with microturbines ......but the bearings couldn't handle the speeds ....Nuke is the answer .......Have all those enviro nuts fix the damage they caused in birds and bats.
