I think the word 'sin' was inappropriate. I would have preferred 'buggary.'

They really don't. The traditions might make it seem like the do. But you'd have to know the heart of every Catholic to know whether they do.

This isn't the issue.

The issue is the Catholic Church's leadership has been compromised and inexcusably political over the past 100 years specifically.

And fricking young boys and covering it up is just part of the problem.

I agree. The Evil One works his hardest on the righteous and those who are leaders in the church. What better way to lead souls astray?

100 Hail Mary's and money to the Church will not buy the forgiveness of this particular sin.

So many hate what they “think” the Catholic Church teaches. The church has never taught you can buy your way to heaven. Corrupt priests/bishops certainly taught that, but the church has never taught that. Every human organization ever has corruption.

Back to your first point, even Catholics believe the saying “the floors of hell are paved with the skulls of bishops.”

Not sure why some of you think this is surprising. The Catholic Church has never wavered in her teaching regarding homosexuality- unlike many Protestant “churches.”

Perhaps because, although the Church also has never wavered in its stance on abortion, it's never taken any action against the Catholic politicians who encourage and fund it.

We're used to the Catholic church taking positions. We're just not used to them actually doing anything.

The Pope. All the Saints. Mary. Confessing to your priest instead of Jesus. The Bible didn’t mention all these levels of bureaucracy.

The accepted Catholic view isn't the surprise. The decree from this pope is the surprise.

I would think Francis would keep mum on something like that.

Pretty sure it was implied.

JK

I’m not Catholic or anything really.

I don’t have a dog in this one.

Not sure on your context here... like political propaganda. Woke church= false testimony.

God will forgive all sinners, which is all of us, but only if we ask for forgiveness from those sins. If we never ask for forgiveness then we are not forgiven. But make no mistake about it. God hates sin. It is direct violation of his law.

quote:

Our roles as followers are to serve, listen, give, forgive, and love.

You left out the most important aspect which is spreading god’s word which is the Bible.
There is nothing wrong with discussing sin. Jesus mentions hell more times than he mentions Heaven. It is a very real place and needs to be discussed.

It's called 'commiserating' and it's perfectly fine with the nuns.

You would have a point if Catholics believed any of those people were/are God.

They don't.

reverence/respect/tradition =/= worship/idolatry

Well God decided that long ago when he appointed Peter as the "official" speaker for the Church.

I don’t disagree at all.
We absolutely should discuss sin.
The entire foundation of Christianity is built upon grace and forgiveness.

My point was that people interpret the Bible.
That’s been the case throughout history.
Humans—and church leaders, in particular—can (and should) offer spiritual guidance to the flock.
But ultimately, man’s relationship with God is his alone; Jesus will sit in judgement.
Again, I’m not referring to this specific declaration by the Pope.

That’s just my opinion and belief.
I wholly respect yours as well.

There are many parts of the Bible that are open to interpretation and there are many parts that are very clear and not open to interpretation.

I agree. But many people are fooled by Lucifer and his false teachings.

Clearly Peter (along with John and James) was amongst Jesus’s closest followers.
And I was taught to believe that Peter was the spokesman for the apostles.
He most certainly spread the word of Christ’s teachings.

What an amazing story.
Peter made mistakes and faltered often, yet Jesus loved him and still used him to show us how big His love is and how attainable His grace is.
