Sales are down industry wide. It's not just GM.

GM is doing very well with trucks, SUVs, and crossovers.

They are also struggling to maintain sales with sedans just like every other automaker. Ford actually canceled all of their sedans, which I think was a bit overkill.

They are moving production of the Chevrolet Cruze to Mexico. Not enough volume to keep Lordstown open. American assembly plants that are doing anything that isn't a truck or crossover right now is probably on notice.

How long until the Democrats try to blame Trump for GM being a bloated behemoth with shitty business practices?

That was not forced to go through a true bankruptcy where it would have had to make these hard choices back in 2008/09 and where Obama and Co. allowed for superior creditors to be thoroughly fricked in favor of the UAW.

He can't make sedans popular again.

Everyone wants a crossover or pickup now.

If he wants to help GM workers, he should encourage the company to move production of crossovers like the Chevrolet Trax, Buick Encore, and Buick Envision to the US.

Those are now the hot sellers and will become more popular in the future. They've replaced sedans like the Cruze and Malibu in a lot of driveways.

I'm shocked that GM is a poorly run company.

I actually think that they are best run of the big 3 right now.

Sort of like being the thinnest kid at fat camp....

Those vehicles all look pretty standard today.

The ideal car look is almost a lost cause given modern manufacturing.

Truth. GM makes garbage and has for years. They ran out of Obama bucks... Now they are out of consumer schmucks.

And a lot of that look is simply mandated by safety and fuel economy standards. THat's why so many of the cars look so similar, because they all have to meet the same standards. Designers simply do not have the same freedoms they had in the 50s and 60s.

This is the correct answer...

I’ll add Trump needs to drop steel tariffs on Mexico and Canada. The new NAFTA deal is done so just focus the trade war on China.

Do people really need $80K "luxury" trucks and SUVs? No but they think they do then they are stuck in one for 8 years.

No...and the fricking things kept getting bigger and bigger and you can't even maneuvre around these assholes in the parking lots and they want to take up 2 car spaces because instead of being a normal person - Johnny Office - has to buy a fricking tank as a commuter car in the hopes one day a year he might get away from the wife to go fishing.

I partly blame the consumer - who doesn't have cash on hand to buy these things outright - but demanding Chevy build these too big for the road monsters with all the bells and whistles inside.

If you wouldn't come rolling in in your $1000 piece of shite and slam the door into my $80K truck, maybe I wouldn't feel the need to park in the middle of two spaces.

What does that even mean?

Chevy cars and mid-size SUVs have the worst lines, worst grills, and the worst interiors. They've demarcated Chevy from GMC so much now, that their mid-grade brand, GMC, is equivalent to standard brands like Ford, Nissan, and Toyota. That leaves Chevy unmatched in its shittiness with no equivalents in the American market. This again, is for cars and mid-size SUVs. The Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban are designed with a little more thought and competitiveness in mind.
