Per-capita gross domestic product was €32,108 in the former East German states in 2018, compared with €42,971 in the former West German states. Productivity in the East, in other words, was 75% of productivity in the West on a per-capita basis.

AI response (I get it automatically with any Google search for being a Gemini beta tester)

quote:

Even after reunification, East Germany still has a significantly lower GDP per capita compared to West Germany, with the former East German states typically reporting a GDP per capita around 75-80% of the level in the former West German states, indicating a persistent economic gap between the two regions.

Key points about the GDP difference between East and West Germany:
Per capita GDP disparity:

The per capita GDP in the former East German states is considerably lower than in the former West German states.

Productivity gap:
East Germany also shows lower productivity levels compared to West Germany.

Being poor makes you poorer.

Separating from the West would make the East even poorer.

The last time Germany was this split and in such a decline, a dynamic ruler came along and nearly destroyed the continent.

Large corporate entities long based in the West pumping up your numbers makes the average person richer? Well, it must, right? There's the math. Per capita!

Yes

You're comparing this to a region without corporate entities and the opportunities provided. Don't forget that.

Nobody thinks East Germany is anywhere near as well off financially or economically as West Germany. Stating the truth isn't some hot take, either.

The funny thing is the tough talking is about putting more money towards defense/NATO which is exactly what Trump wants. They need us more than we need them on the trade front, so that won't be a big issue for the US. At least we won't be footing as much of the bill for providing defense in Europe.

no. This is why places like Detroit and Los Angeles aren't paradises.

So, the voters indicate they want something different, and first thing CDU does is form a coalition with the old guys.

F the voters.
