LINKFor a group that is constantly seeking inclusion to main stream they certainly don't have a problem excluding certain groups.
BTW: San Fran Lgbt parade will not allow National guard booth. Chelsea Manning is hononary grand Marshall

Shhh...don't anger the "libertarians" who think this freak is some type of hero. I will say he has, at least for now, more balls than the chicken Snowden.

I don't get the gay 'pride' angle. Am I missing something?
I don't think I have ever thought to myself or said to anyone 'Man, I'm so proud to be a hetro male'

A lot of gay people did grow up thinking to themselves or saying to other people "Man, I'm so ashamed to be gay." The message behind pride is that you don't have to be ashamed of being homosexual.

What's the message behind putting another man in a choke collar and a bikini bottom and towing him behind you down the parade route?

Basically the same message as when a woman exposes her breasts for beads at Mardi Gras: that it's fun to break the rules about what's allowed in public on special occasions, like an annual parade.

So stop saying it.

You should go to a gay pride parade and ask around.

Interesting take. When I came of age I only thought of girls/women. Never felt shame. So I guess I get that.

I've been "around" gay pride parades. Point is, it's debauchery without a real message. I'm sure it is fun for some, but even a lot of folks in the gay community hate that stuff because it makes them "abnormal" and many just want to assimilate.
It may be comparable to NOLA mardi gras, but keep in mind that Bourbon St. antics aren't the norm for most of these areas. I don't think you can blame people for getting a little miffed if Bourbon Street comes by your front door in an area where that type of stuff is definitely not the norm.

It's not necessarily all about having a specific message more than just having the courage to act out of the norm in public for at least a day. I would never do those things you described at a parade but it doesn't make me hate those people or feel ashamed. That's the whole point. Nobody at a gay pride event should have to feel embarrassed, ashamed, ect.

Some shame is fine. I don't think there's much nobility in not feeling ashamed for dressing your boyfriend up as a slave and dragging him around in public.
Anyway, I'm not that concerned about Pride or anything, it doesn't really bother me when it happens here. I just think it's time for the gay community to move more toward "normal," and I know a lot of gay folks who want this as well.

So does "You are stomping on my religious freedom" and "There is a war on Christianity"
Both sides could use the occasional chill pill

I guess I agree and disagree with you. I wish more people would see the non-stereotypical side of the gay community. The ones that you would never even know they were gay. But at the same time, I don't think people should have to try to adhere to societal norms regarding appearance.

Yes, some groups like to have parades. The parades don't have to have a singular, clear message. Sometimes people just want to have a good time without being so feminine about it ("I just need to know that this parade meant something to you."). Gays like to have parades sometimes. Sometimes it's somebody else's birthday and not yours. There's nothing to "get."

Depends on what you mean by "should have to."
On a broader level, if you want to be treated as normal by this society, you'll generally need to find some compromise with its norms. I'm sure plenty of people who act in the manner we're talking about don't really care about that. But, if you want to be treated equally (I don't mean rights, just in how people respond to you), acting in that manner will discredit a lot of your complaints, IMO.
