There seems to be a growing movement on the internet that Christopher Nolan ‘Whitewashed’ Dunkirk by removing any reference to ‘people of color’.
Some of the French troops caught at Dunkirk were African but there skin color was not why they initially got left behind, it was English first and the movie covered that.

Kinda like replacing the white guys in Iwo Jima monument with minorities even though it was white guys who raised that flag
I wonder how long it will be before that monument is deemed to be offensive by some activist group.

Is this actually an “internet movement” or is this just something the OP thought up and wanted to validate it somehow?
ETA: the phrase “people of color” is retarded

When Dunkirk was first reviewed, a critic said something about the noticeable absence of people of color.

Is this really bad trolling or just being dumb?

It’s definitely a troll. Or he’s just excluding the Slavs from being classified as “white”. They aren’t Anglo-Saxon or western but it’s still remarkably silly, considering their skin color

back during this time period blacks were not very numerous in and military. if they showed blacks in dunkirk movie then THAT was fiction unless he was a servant to a general.
USA was the most inclusive military as far as having black servicemen and even then they were only allowed to be cooks and did servant type jobs

It was USA Today review and was ridiculed for it.
“The trio of timelines can be jarring as you figure out how they all fit, and the fact that there are only a couple of women and no lead actors of color may rub some the wrong way,” Mr. Truitt wrote Monday.

Two new-ish things (last 10 years +/-) in movies that really annoy me:
1. Placing blacks in historical movies in rolls that would not have existed during that time either because there were no blacks or due to the culture of the time they wouldn't have been able to be in that roll.
Like the push for Idris Elba to play the next Scottish old money orphan in the British Secret Service? I know it's not historical, but they want to change books/storylines to fit their SJW bullshite.

2. Having 115 lb model looking women beating the shite out of grown 6' plus, 220 lb plus men (basically NFL linebackers).
This too. The "empower women" movement is nuts too.

I would say the French were...they were so undermanned they used as many men from their African colonies as they could.
The Tirailleurs Senegalais were created as the first permanent units of black African soldiers under French rule in 1857. These were not professional soldiers; they were drawn from the ranks of the ex-slaves and social outcasts who were sold to the French by the local African chiefs.
With the French entry into World War I these Tirailleurs Senegalais were sent to Europe to defend France. The number of West African troops serving under French command in World War I comprised about 170,891 men, and approximately 30,000 of them were killed. In Senegal alone more than a third of all males of military age were mobilized and sent to France to fight.
After the war the French colonial authorities passed the Conscription Law of 1919, which called for universal male conscription in peacetime as well as wartime. Hundreds of thousands of the Tirailleurs Senegalais were compelled to fight in France's colonial wars and to provide labour brigades for the colonial authorities.
In 1940, African troops comprised roughly 9 percent of the French army.
The movie shows what about 20 French Soldiers in the town...and of that they show 2 African soldiers.
So I suppose Nolan probably got it just right.

Well didn't the movie show some French troops in the movie and some of them were black?
Just saw it two nights ago. I remember seeing two black guys waiting in line for one of the ships. Given the actual numbers that's a generous representation.

The books and movies aren’t tied together. Getting butthurt over Elba being bond is ridiculous.

A female Bond is about the pointless thing I can think of
Oh wait a black guy? Meh, whatever

Are you ok with all Romans speaking with a British accent?

no, you're not quite correct....the US Army had two black cavalry regiments (9th and 10th -- Buffalo Soldiers) and a black infantry regiment (24th or 25th) in the Regular Army...there were also some black National Guard units as well pre WW2...
the French had several African units most notably the Senegalese and from Chad...
the Indian Army wasn't part of the BEF nor were there any Gurkhas...

Movie should have had Denzel Washington with a British accent.
