No it works in practice.

It just isn’t often practiced. The only one with free trade policies is getting fricked.

That is not true at all.

The one with the free trade policy gets the benefit of the subsidized product of the other country's goods.

The entire premise that trade deficits are bad is just wrong. The last time we had a true trade surplus was during the Great Depression.

Think about this--the tariffs are just now being imposed yet we have full employment. How do you think making consumers spend more on day to day goods will grow the economy?

Surely you don't think America is a free trade nation. Surely.

Surely the PT board is capable of debate without employing a straw man fallacy. Surely.

What does this have to do with film credits?

Would you say film welfare is unfair trade?

Do you think "comparative advantage" is only applicable w/in a country's borders?

It goes against all acceptable benefits of free trade and capitalism. The whole of economics could easily be explained only using tariffs

So you would rather have more people being unemployed? Is a welfare check more than a person can make working a regular 40 hour shift? Less Americans working, less American goods bein made. Less exports, more imports. Makes sense. Carrying on. And if you think the trade deals with China do not hurt American manufacturers, you are an idiot.

typical Trumpster "conservative" for spending other peoples money on things you like

anyone that likes film welfare is no conservative nor a friend of taxpaying people.

The analogy is absolutely appropriate.
Here is the analogy:
War is terrible. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, we lost about 2200 American lives. But as war is terrible, and both sides would lose precious lives in that war, should we have simply called it a day at that point?

We are in a trade war. We have been in a trade war for decades. We have until now, simply called it a day. That has been our approach. We have until now, capitulated to asymmetric policies and asymmetric demands.

Our foreign trading competitors are accustomed to what amounts to post-WWII affirmative action by the US aiding them. That favor on our part has become expectation. At this point 70yrs later, we've explained such expectations are not reasonable and are unfair.

We've tried asking nicely for our trading partners to play fair. They refuse. They have no interest in fairness. As a result, our GDP has suffered. Tax revenues have suffered. Our debt has escalated.

Given that situation, the OP wants to continue as is. Not exactly Medal-of-Honor behavior, is it now?

We will certainly have less employment if tariffs go on as Trump wants.

Only the truly naive believe tariffs create jobs---they destroy jobs.
