Democrats have largely led big and midsize cities for much of the past half-century. Yet the gaps in socioeconomic outcomes between white people and people of color are by several measures at their worst in the richest, bluest cities of the United States.

How could this be? Because high-profile cultural conservatives ask this question so disingenuously, white liberals have generally brushed aside this reality rather than grappled with its urgency. There’s now a danger that this sidestepping will continue, even after a national evaluation of racism since the brutal police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

As the mayor of Minneapolis from 2014 to 2018, as a Minneapolis City Council member from 2006 until 2014 and as a white Democrat, I can say this: White liberals, despite believing we are saying and doing the right things, have resisted the systemic changes our cities have needed for decades. We have mostly settled for illusions of change, like testing pilot programs and funding volunteer opportunities.

These efforts make us feel better about racism, but fundamentally change little for the communities of color whose disadvantages often come from the hoarding of advantage by mostly white neighborhoods.

Wish more black people would see and understand this.

The language of class warfare is as pathetic as it is grounded in untruth.

White people and black people would get along much better if not for white liberals.

Oh yeah they do. They want to sitting at the head of the table, controlling the whole fricking thing. Unless and until that happens, expect ill-conceived outrage and riots.

People who blame others for their own mistakes, never learn. People who accept responsibility for their own failures have the option to try harder.

NYC schools noted this many times. NYC is a place where many immigrants come with nothing, yet get an education and prosper. Others are chronic failures.

You realize what he is really saying is, “Hey black people, we have been fake socialists in the past but we are ready to go all in now so please stay on board the commie train.”

In other words "we" have profited financially from "testing pilot programs and funding volunteer opportunities" that were set up as non profits by our cronies.

The Democratic Party is going to drop Black Americans like a hot brick the morning of November 4th. I can’t believe Black Americans fall for this bs every four years. Yea there will be a black woman Vice President but so the frick what. I have more power than an american vice president except I don’t have secret service protection. And I can’t break a 50-50 lock in a senate vote. Wow big deal. I hope Black plantation Democrat voters figure it out one day.
